The resident Spybot in XP is a major problem as it conflicts with a lot of things, leading to the blue screen of death.

I've removed it as being the root cause of many problems.

While I'm not sure how it can affect TC, having it running while your playing TC is not a good idea. At the very least, its going to scr*w around with your framerate while it operates in the background.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wont Spybot examine TC as it loads ? It could be interfering with the load.

Try to scan the file with a good antivirus with spyware support, SpyBot doesn't scan files out of "critical" folders.

Take a look at the autorun files on Windows start (with msconfig app) to see if there's something there.

apparently my problem is common, and currently unsolved, i tried it w/out running avast or spybot

More info on the crashing PMInstaller. I noticed that sometimes, even with a good 9001 page file the plugman.getware would still fail to find the ware. Put some debug in the script and noticed the get ware by maintype and subtype was failing. Eventually figured this is what PMInstaller's patch dat/cat are for - custom wares.

Found that if I remove/move the old 07.dat/cat [check date in case the file number is different] then PMInstaller fires up reliably instead of crashing on load. If I do this it also seems to exit cleanly (most of the time) and writes a good dat/cat patch. I took a copy of these files just in case.

Now I've installed Apricotslice's cbeam and beamdock using the installer as well as the ealier NPC bail and Cycrows SCS and all seem to be happily coexisting. :D

On with the game...

Did you manage to get any ships working correctly? did what you tried to no avail still. =(

Has anyone been able to get Salvage Claim Software working and if so, what do I need to do? Plugin Manager always crashes and while I can see the hotkey, I never see the ware.

@Dexstar: Haven't tried any custom ships, so dunno. Maybe the delete-old-patch before starting XPM might help it to do a clean exit and install new ships in the new patch, but I've no idea.

@Kakurate: Yes, I have Cycrow's SCS running. See earlier posts for general hints and hacks. Your mileage may vary.

@Hellgate: Is this version 2.20 any better than the Beta 6 in Cycrow's OP?

Yes its version 2.20 ... it is for TC and not for X3R

The links in Cycrow's OP were (last time I downloaded them) going to Version 2.20, Beta 6. I am not aware of any newer version at time of this post, other than my cruelly hacked exe as explained above.

Plug in Manger and Vista 64

I have vista 64, and it installs fine, what problems are you having?

Edit. Check to see if you got the needed runtimeswhich are on the same download site, it will NOT work without them.

I cannot seem to get custom wares to work. The ???.cat files are there and the SCS is in the ???.cat file but it is not available in game. And neither are the commands. Other wares are also not available--and their commands are not available. Although they are also in the ???.cat file.
???=number in my case 11.cat and 11.dat

Yes Beta 6 is the right one, as i remember, you have to install it as an 'Administrator' on Vista and it should work just fine. :)

out of interest people how is the PM performing with anything using emp, are you guys running it ok

i just spent a hour looking into the constant "your script doesn't work right" posts with my scripts using emp and all roads lead me back here.

better still on installing the B6 to see if that helped i get the crashes reported earlier on exit.

with cycrow not around and no eta if i cant use emp and i've tried creating custom wares with the PM to no avail (if anyone knows how please pm me) i have 2 choices

- ask people to uninstall any script using a custom ware (not really a good idea as this is the tried and tested format and the constant spoon feeding replies i'd need to reply with are really becoming tiresome)

- join cycrow on a sabbatical as it would be pointless me scripting anything needing new tech upgrades

does the PM only cause issue with custom wares or is it any other mods?

The crashing issue happens with me the most when I change the directory for installing into. If I dont change it, it seems to install fine, but then crashes on exit, but the install is done fine.

When I change directory, it crashes immediately without doing the install. The second attempt usually works though.

And running the program and selecting the directory to install into, rather than have it automatically loaded when you click on an spk, works better as well.

I cant say if there is any difference for EMP, as I dont use it myself, but offhand, I cant see why there would be a difference, as EMP is a false patch and shouldnt be in the spk.

If EMP was included in an spk, then it could have a problem, so I'd suggest this not be allowed at this point.

i'm specifically referring to this
2) EMP problems. some of you have reported having emp problem with scripts that require the emp file. currently for some reason manager is removing the contents of the emp file when it closes. in a nut shell the emp file is an M/T file when manager closes. there is a temp fix and a workaround to this problem. i am not going to post the temp fix as it will more likely create more headaches for cycrow down the road. so the work around is this: every time you close manager and BEFORE you start TC and your game requires the EMP file you are going to need to manually replace the EMP file as explain by LV. this needs to be done every time you close manager and before you run your game.
