Sound degeneration

Magic - Have got X3TC - Brilliant - however just one problem - all is well for some time and then the sound goes and all I get is a screeching - have to shut down agme and the restart - any clues

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 processor 3500+
2.19 GHz
2.00GB Ram

Not sure where to look for the name of graphics card and I think the sound is on board.
