I'm using Steam versions of both X3:AP and X3:FL on Ubuntu Linux. Both games see my joystick in the "Input Device" menu and I can even see activity on the axes when I move the joystick around. Once in game, however, the joystick does nothing at all. For troubleshooting, one thing I tried so far was going into the Steam controller settings for the game and setting it to "Disable Steam Input." This made no difference.
The joystick I'm using is a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. I've tried with both new and saved games and am not running any modifications. The joystick worked with another flight sim game when I tested it. Also, the same joystick works with X3:AP and X3:FL under Windows (which I've since moved away from).
I find it strange that X3 can see the joystick just fine, but then it just doesn't work in game. Any ideas?

In case it helps anyone else, I have a wonky workaround: after you're in game in X3, alt+tab out and switch focus to another application. Then, switch back to X3. This works for me as suddenly I can now use the joystick. So bizarre.

Hello,

A couple of minutes ago i tried it and it works also for me. Thats really weird. But ok its a work around.
I got to figure out how to setup it up, but because the control options allow buttons but no axes, it will not be that much of a problem.
In my case it helped

Re: Joystick not working in X3:AP and X3:FL (Linux)
Had the same thing happen to my joystick before, turned out I did not have all the i386 dependencies installed. Once I had gone through installing them all, joystick worked fine every time (still does)..
I had made a note of the files to install when I had this problem way back, this list may be incomplete, but in case it helps;
--add-architecture i386
libc6:i386
libgtk2.0-0:i386
libmpg123-0:i386
libgstreamer-plugins-base1.0.0:i386
libsane:i386
libudev1:i386
libxslt1.1:i386
libasound2-plugins:i386
libasound2:i386
libasound2-data:i386
libxml2:i386

I will check this out. In my case the stick works but the throttle only goes to half speed and does not reduce speed.

@ sirprosik: Check that your throttle output is not set up and bound to a unidirectional/digital game input rather than bidirectional/analogue choices.

First when I try to play I get testfailed 1 X3FL_config dialog popup. Press return and I get the game setup dialog.
I have the stick twist to axis5 and it is correct according to jstest.
I have the 'throttle' set to axis2 and in jstest it shows working but in game it only does ~1/2 forward no negative throttle.
Flight stick is a gladiator nxt R premium.
The game etc functions normally in Windows (USB SSD install via Rufus).
The axis function as intended and do not have strafe functions attached.
In Linux the axis kinda work but have strafe attached so I move in space just changing direction even with throttle 0 using Z and X keys along with backspace key.
So when I get out of the ship to do repairs and claim ships I can very easily 'strafe' to many many km's away from where I exited the ship.
Was hoping to find a config file in windows to compare to linux but can not find it in either system for some reason.
Should I find it in the addons2 directory somewhere? Is it the same config failing to initialize here?
