Very sad news, Paul. You have been a major part of this forum since I first joined and I have found your posts to be informative. Thanks for keeping us informed on your progress with this illness over the months. Like others, I was hoping there would be a positive outcome. The Colonel Ray Butts reference in the heading seems appropriate if that was intended.

Take care and hope you have a peaceful and pain free time.

Posting this as a new topic so it doesn't get lost in the other thread. Basically, had a chat with the doctor this morning and he's told me the CAR-T therapy has failed, so my cancer is now officially terminal and there's nothing more that can be done other than treat the symptoms. I might have weeks, maybe a few months at most. So, next time this user account goes quiet for more than a few days you'll know what's happened.

Meet you on the other side of the jumpgate.
A classy post from a class act. I've always admired your sang-froid in your interactions with others here.

Hi Paul,

I'm crushed to hear this. While I don't engage often on this forum anymore, it's been a home to me for many years and you have been a huge part of that. I have immensely enjoyed reading your comments and interacting with you over the past couple of decades.

You have made a difference to peoples lives that goes beyond those in your immedate vicinity.

For whatever lies ahead for you, I wish you all the peace in the world, and thank you.

Emily

I'm so sorry to hear this! It is hard to find the words to help cheer up someone facing such news. For what it is worth, I am certain that this mortal life is not the end, that our existence extends beyond death, and that we will have the chance to be with our loved ones again.

We'll all be joining you someday, so you'll have good company!

We've lost many friends from these forums before, but this is the first I can recall where it wasn't from choice (theirs, or the moderators). That is sad.
As we pull back from ourselves, we see (or imagine) the impact of the situation on you and your nearest and dearest. And that is sad.
But as we pull back further, we see everything you've done for us and with us, and the way you've made the forums, the game and our lives better. And that is joyous.

During my absence from the forums, I've been diagnosed with an autism spectrum condition, which indirectly explains why my words are so often misunderstood. If the above doesn't express my feelings clearly enough, let me say this:
Love

We often express it subtly - often too subtly. We sometimes say it, but typically only romantically. Now I just say it; I have loved you, I do love you, and I will keep loving you until my love runs out.

Thank you. May your future journeys be peaceful.

I think it was fitting to put your fare well on the jump gate.
This will be in the next update for X4. Fare well <3

I too am on the spectrum, finding out as an adult. While I'm more articulate with written communication than with speech I am still lost for words here. Thinking about it I found this actually fitting and I know I'd regret it if I didn't say so, YMMV.

I agree, writing it on the gate itself is a nice touch.

EDIT by linolafett: i removed the image in the quote to not bloat the thread.

This really hurts.
For many years now, Paul you have been a cornerstone of this forum both as moderator and contributor.
I was shocked to hear about your diagnosis and am now very sad.
You are a true role model and helped to shape our community for years.
It is a great honour for us to have a message from you in our games.

I wish you peace, inner as well as outer, for your life as well as beyond and thank you for all that you gave us!

Once I read the inital thread and understood what you were telling us I was without words.
The weeks since then have been a pleasure to share.

The news you have received is difficult for anybody and everybody.

Wish you have a good time with those close to you for as long as you have.

Very sad news to hear indeed - you've been a big part of here for so long, going to miss you and your contributions. Thank you for sharing the journey and keeping us updated throughout as well - it can't have been easy.

For the coming weeks/months I hope you're comfortable, at ease, and able to spend your time with those who matter the most. Take care.

Wow. I don't really know what to say but I feel I need to say something. I've been around the various forums here since the late nineties (not active of late) and had become accustomed to PJK being an active member (previously a forum mod) of the community. I am both shocked and saddened by your news Paul. I am lost for words really. You have been a bastion of this place and one who earned the respect you have from us all here. I sincerely hope you get the most out of your remaining time.

I hope you're able to enjoy the rest of your time with the people who care about you the most. I hope it's happy, fun and memorable.

We'll be joining you in the not too distant future, so until then. o7

As some of the others have said, in a sense we're all just names on a screen to each other here... but your name has been showing up on this screen for a long time, and it's been above a lot of really good posts, and my time here has been the better for it. It has been a privilege. Thank you, and so long.

Sad news, hardly bearable. Your honesty, mentality and dignity are admirable. Thank you, pjknibbs.

I am lurking forums in german, english and french. In the past few months I have seen several threads from (or about) members of communities passing (or passed) away. And I was impressed: if it comes to last questions those communities can be empatic, caring, 'civilized'. I'd hadn't believed it some years ago, but there can be more dignified interaction in forums than in RL.

Yes ! what an honor, it has been to have had you as part of this community.
It will be a far lesser place with you not being here.
Again, a very big thank you for just being you and of course for all of times you have helped over the years.
