In the past some folks from here played together in Arsa minecraft server, this weekend i was in the mood again to play a bit so i have placed a minecraft server on my Dedicated Server.

I dont want it to be full of kids, just some friendly people to play with.

We are using the FTB pack Revelation, with plenty of mods to play with.

If anyone is interested on playing again tell me, the server seems to be stable.

I will give you the hostname to find it, also for voice chat i have an TS3 server, i can create a channel for forum users to use.

Interesting. I haven't played since before Micro$oft got ahold of it. What's it like, now? (Heck, I haven't played since before the patch that introduced offhand/shields, so am probably far behind the curve.)

I don't own Minecraft so I went to have a look at it, £17.95 they want for it, a game that is 8 years old that's a ridiculous price for a game that old, £10 at most. Not just that, it's Java based, my windows computer hates Java with a vengeance and it's a microsoft game. I had a program update a few weeks back there and they used a java applet to do the update, it took me 2 days to work out how to get my computer to update and microsoft want £18 for it.

Literally, your loss. Some cheeky feckers want £40+ for games that I played for 30 mins. Biggest waste of money ever.

Admittedly minecraft cost me... think it was $10 Alpha was it? Number of hours is probably second only to X2, Freelancer and Guild Wars 2*

Oh and all those games cost at least three times as much. Age is utterly irrelevant to game play. You'll either love it or hate it. Being either java based, OR the price, is all the wrong reasons to discount it.

p.s. The java applet was probably java itself updating - sack all to do with windows or microsoft - and it's only to verify the version installed. Either uninstall java and never ever install it (p.s. its everywhere, lulz), or keep it up to date and stop whining about "oh it's an applet".

In addition to what Chips said, the newer "Windows 10" version is written in C++ (or is it C# I literally have no idea) and allows you to play with people playing Minecraft on XBox, PS4 or even Android or iPhones while the Java players can't. There's two versions ... "Java" and "Bedrock" which is every version other than Java.

No its because nothing will install it any more, everything is getting rid of it and wants nothing to do with it. Try and use a modern browser and you will find it no longer works, for example, I think it was firefox 52 that last allowed it to be installed, firefox is now on version 58. Same with Chrome it will not install it, chrome and google wants nothing to do with it. Edge does not allow it's use either and that's microsoft. I actually had to use IE 11 to install it, that's how I got around it. My biggest problem was it took me over a day to realise it was down to Java that was causing me the problems, as no one in their right mind still uses it.

Java is everywhere. Maybe it's Flash that your talking about? There are a lot of filters and blockers for Javascripts online and, perhaps, there are some anti-virus programs that get a bit skittish around Java applets on the desktop. But, Java itself is still hugely popular.

A Java applet as an updater isn't unusual.

I haven't updated Minecraft in a long time. But, I do have to say that I can easily recommend it - It's fun and is a nice relaxing sandbox explore/building/survival sort of game. It's very easy to get lost in playing it and I don't regret all the time spent. Though, at that time, it started to get a little boring since the mechanics only went so far and I wanted something a bit more complex. (There wasn't any point to all the complex machinery one could construct and no real game-related purpose to them.)

Anyway, it's worth experiencing. Or, at least, it was. I'm unsure what the state of the game is since Microsoft got ahold of it. From what I've seen just on a few vids, it appears to now be a microtransaction cash-cow sort of game.

PS - Adding mods was a pretty kludgy affair, back in the day. I hope that has improved. Also, the abundance of crap and malware out there put out for people (mostly kids) searching for Minecraft mods was simply barbaric. It was the most saturated game-related malware-forest I've ever seen. I'm "not stupid" so knew what to avoid, but it was still a far too dangerous environment to go mindlessly shuffling about in. If anything, the process of downloading and installing safe mods needed to truly focused on. Maybe Microsoft has done something about that?

Minecraft is like Lego's but in a computer, if you liked Lego's as a child and you like playing videogames, you will enjoy minecraft.

I dont play "vanilla" minecraft, we can call it "the base game", there are some communities of modders that do "modpacks" oriented to different types of gameplays, ones for exploration, others for magic, etc etc.

With that you have like a whole new game full of possibilities to investigate and do things, so you can keep playing a lot, and believe me by A LOT of time without getting bored of it, because you almost always have a new mod to explore, new things to do and such.

Right now, the server i have has almost 200 mods, and its multipurpose, so if you get bored of being "techie" you can start with magic and go on.


Minecraft is like XGames, they dont tell you what to do, or in what you should waste your time playing, you are the one who decides it, but oh boy, once you find something you like to waste your time, be prepared to waste a lot of it xD

Jokes aside, what i refer calling it's like lego is that everything is a block and you can build whatever you want with those blocks. Of course it has other aspects but asking internet friends, people that liked minecraft also liked legos as a child, and people who doesn't like minecraft also didn't liked legos or dont played with them at all.

I think the game it's worth a try, if you dont know if you like it, you can check for any good friend to let you use his/her account and play a bit to see if the game is for you. If you like it your money will be well spent, as you will probably play it for a ton of hours.

Oh no! Minecraft is one of those games making time go by so fast and suddenly it is a whole new month. It is so fun and addicting.
Gladly, last time I couldn't find someone to play with which was boring and I was too lazy to fiddle with the mod pack, honestly.

I agree that messy mining should be avoided. It's just not polite.

I put a lot of hours into this game a long time ago, mostly played on my own, haven't played this game in yonks, but am tempted to come out of retirement.
