The thing about Heroes is that there are as many new ones created as there are moments of conflict, turmoil, disaster or otherwise "interesting times."

The day we find a lack of heroes would be a very grand day, indeed... or a very terrible one.

People still strap themselves to explosive equipment manufactured by the lowest bidder. They still work in a protective shell designed to be the lightest it can be, while sill holding a breathable atmosphere.

And, I am absolutely positive that there is at least one person, right now, doing something horrendously stupid that will, someday, be declared to be uniquely heroic. I'm not sure they'll live or die in the attempt, but I am sure we'll be either entertained or inspired by their actions...

John Glenn was definitely a steely eyed rocket man with brass balls that clanked when he walked. Thankfully, we still have a pretty good supply of those people left. (Women included, though I haven't come up with a witty euphemism for them, yet.)

What's more depressing than famous people dying is your work colleagues not knowing who they are. A brief poll yesterday (some of these aren't dead) they didn't know who:

Yul Brynner ; Burt Lancaster ; Charlton Heston ; Kirk Douglas (Happy 100TH!) or even Shari Lewis ;) were!

Not a secret: Henry Heimlich, inventor of the Heimlich Manouvre died agd 96. Don't know how many people choked and got hugged with his special grip. But I sure hope he will rest in peace as it was quite a few.

Or personal friends... wonderful people who are unknown to many, but terribly missed by those who knew them.

I'm sorry more of you couldn't meet Steve Nash (Gnasher to all who knew him). Paraglider pilot, snowboarder, biker, and inspirational in all those areas. A truly lovely man. :(

I was somewhat surprised to learn she was still alive up till today . . .

A person of note to be sure, but I don't follow music that closely.

Three years older than me.

Oh dear, bit of a surprise. Can't see what he died of yet, guess that'll be announced.

2016 despite being nearly over isn't finished yet, it seems.

Well, THIS is his last Christmas. I hate the song, but not the artist. RIP George.

I wonder if he has not been sick a while, I know they said heart failure but the statement from the family was 'he died peacefully' which sounds allot more like they knew it was coming, rather than a sudden heart attack, possible he had Aids, he had pneumonia a while back which is a common problem that crops up with Aids.

I remember Liz Smith from 'I didn't know you cared' and the 'Royle family'. An excellent actress with good timing.
