Seeing as I have not done a different one in a while I thought I would post this, she is actually a pretty good singer but it's the other one that makes the video.

Suzerain OST - I endorse both soundtrack and the game, I rarely see (or should I say hear) soundtrack so well fitting together with the gameplay - each othe the track name fit perfectly with the game events and decision you have to make (e.g. "Critical" played during the vote on changing the constitution, suspense was enormous... and I lost the vote):

I am currently watching the series "The Umbrella Academy" and they used Peter Schillig's Major Tom in their soundtrack. I never knew that the song was also released in English, I only ever knew the German original version. Hearing the English version was really interesting.

It's from the same era as 99 Luftballons, the translation of which you are no doubt familiar with. The English translations of both sound a bit awkward IMO, and I always preferred the originals.

Translating a song from one language into another is pretty darn hard, and it is normally not done. When you mentioned it, it reminded me of a translation of the ending titles of Konisuaba's second season, where the song has been translated from Japanese to English, and it is actually a good translation.

Konosuba - Ouchi ni Kaeritai original Japanese.

Konosuba - I Wanna' Go Home English translation.

I find song translations work best when they don't try too hard to stick closely to the original wording. Some multi-lingual singers (e.g. Shakira or Christine and the Queens) take a looser approach to translation, and it seems to quite well.

But surely, if you are changing the wording and meaning of those words, then you are actually creating a new song.

There are some big music festivals coming up in the UK, one of them being the Leeds and Reading festival, it turms out MTV to also have their award show on at the same time, this is just pure bad management on both sides. Due to the MTV awards, both Måneskin and Jack Harlow who were both meant to play at Leeds and Reading festival have pulled out to play the MTV awards, which I think is pretty disgraceful on their part as people have bought tickets to watch them. To top it all off, Rage Against The Machine had already pulled out of the festival due to ill health which in itself I do not blame them if someone is ill then that is not their fault or doing. The thing is, and it shows just how clueless those people organizing these festivals are, the replacement act for Rage against the Machine is a group called the 1975. For comparison:

Rage Against The Machine - Killing In the Name

The 1975 - Happiness

Now, do you think that fans of Rage Against The Machine want to pay hundreds to watch The 1975. Nothing against the 1975, but they are a totally different kind of music, and it just shows how musically ignorant those organizers are.

You can't translate things literally, word for word, and still have it make sense anyway, because that's not how languages work. So the question of at what point any translation stops being a translation and starts being a new text isn't a clear-cut thing anyway. If you're reading a book in translation, you don't want the text to read like a Google Translate job; you want it to convey the story, obviously, but also the style, emotion, etc. that the original author intended, even if that means rephrasing things a bit to work well in the new language. Why should a song be any different? And if you're in any doubt about this argument, I suggest you look up the translations of the poem Jabberwocky, which embody the point I'm making perfectly.

CBJ don't get me wrong, I agree with you but all I'm saying is when you translate a song from one language to another they are different they are two entities that use the same tune but their words are and meanings are different, so in the end they are actually different songs.

Personally, I do prefer to listen to music in their original words.

THE HU - Black Thunder Part 1 Mongolian.

OTYKEN - STORM Eastern Siberian, sings in Khakas, Chulym, and Russian.

Neither of them would sound right in English or any other language.

A song has melody/tune. Vocals must fit that. You can have words in another language that overall sound similar to the original, but most likely have entirely different meaning. Did Disney's Vaiana/Moana actually get quite close though in some of its songs?

Several hymns (in same language) reuse same melody, but have different lyrics (and theme).

So, one person did compose a piece. Two have written lyrics for it and most likely two have adapted the music to fit the lyrics and used instruments. Is the later of them really separate song, a cover, a translation, an interpretation, shameful theft, or what?

How would you classify these:
Original, I believe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ns8BhkVa0SM
Translation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeUMUBCj1Bk
