The Browncoat thread for all things Firefly/Serenity
You know we are all sci-fi fans around here and i have seen multiple threads about BSG and Doctor Who, i am surprised though that i haven't seen any Firefly/Serenity thread all the time i have been here.
Its one of the Best Sci-Fi verses out there and it has one of the biggest (and the craziest imo) fandom...
So here it is...
The Browncoat thread is open for business.
Lets start with some news of the Verse:
First of all Breaking atmo operation has been a total success, we finally made it out to the black.Serenity broke atmo aboard Space shuttle Atlantis and as such is one of the few shows ever aboard a space station (if not the only one).
Here is the link to the dedicated breaking atmo site, you HAVE to watch the shiny video http://www.breakingatmo.com/status/2007/07/the-video
In older news of the Verse
Can't stop the Serenity screenings have been a total success raising over 100.000 $ for equality now here is the link for the site

EDIT:If you never ever heard of firefly and Serenity just watch this VID
Just following your advice Nirwin...

There are plenty of fans here, but with the lack of any viable future for the story, there hasn't been much more to discuss.

Your answer lays in the 4th word of your question above.Apothos wrote:How about the proposed MMO?
You name it, its been proposed (and probably even started, yet never finished).
Trek online will probably appear in early 2008, and go the Galaxies route, with everyone phasering butterflies and using their tricorder to look for resources.
Would a firefly MMO be space based or planet based? Or would it go the Galaxies route of running around a planet, then hoping in a ship for a very bad flight model?
"I've got a bad feeling about this!" Harrison Ford, 5 times a year, trying to land his plane.

**Skip twenty-minute alien ranting/threat combo|**
Firefly was THE best series EVER imo. Then they went and canned it and made a lot of people seriously angry including ME!
The movie was good BUT it was also a VERY neat way by the makers to cut-off other attempts to re-create it as SO many of the good guys were maimed, slaughter, speared, shot, garroted, stabbed, knifed, eaten, desicrated, missiled and blasted

You forgot to mention the worse marketing campaign ever made for a movie...

Still, we got a Special Edition version of the movie coming out soon (YAY), and I doubt they would have bothered doing that if the movie (BDM) DVD was a flop.
I find it hard to believe that Firefly/Serenity isn't viable for continuation, especially considering how much the fan base has increased since the movies release (of which I have no real figures but an impression from Firefly boards, poll results and people I know getting into it). But whether or not it does continue who knows? The thing that keeps my hopes up is that both Joss and the crew all seem to treat it like their baby, I don't think any of them would turn down the oppurtunity to do more.
Shame certain characters won't be with us in any further escapades, but I'm sure Joss would replace them with equally great characters (though one character I didn't like much anyway).
I agree with the Admiral, best show EVER!

Yep the collectors edition is coming out in late august (only in the US for now

Also don't forget about the graphic novel (or was it a trilogy

For last i can give you some rumors:
Universal is supposed to be observing the browncoat community in order to determine the potential for more Firefly/Serenity.
Actions as the release of the BDCE (big damn collectors edition), the airing of Firefly in High Definition in the Universal HD channel, the firefly marathon in August on the Sci-Fi channel and most of all the online support of Universal officials (mostly in the Uni HD site) makes people believe that something is bound to happen soon.
Just in case someone wants to bolster the browncoat numbers in the Uni HD channel here are the links to the site :
http://www.universalhd.com/
and the Firefly board:

You may find me there (in most occasions

I agree with you, but you need to stop quoting Star Wars, you are just opening yourself up for this all the time.Jericho wrote: It just felt 'As if a million souls cried out in torment and were silenced at once'
I believe it's "As if billions of souls cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced." (but hey I could be wrong too, probably am)

---EDIT---
Off to Universal HD I go...

No, no, no. We are browncoats, we're not sad, just constantly melancholy.
Anyway, enough diversing into Star Wars, favourite Firefly episode people?
Mine comes down to a choice between "Serenity", "Jaynestown", "Ariel" and "Objects in space", but today I probably have to go with Jaynestown, cause it makes me laugh so much, though those guys with the blue hands in Ariel.... brilliant, just brilliant.
Most fantastic moment in the whole series for me has to be when Dobson gets the gun to Rivers head...
Dobson: "Anybody so much as moves and I'll kill her!"
<Cue Mal shooting the guy in the head from the doorway without breaking stride>
Mal: "Wash, Take off!"
(Ok the dialogue is not gonna be perfect there, but roughly. And it is a great exchange)

I'm a big fan, and I completely missed Firefly when it first arrived, and was only introduced to it (by Apoch if anyone is interested) a few months before Serenity hit post production.nirwin wrote:Often Abyss, your candour is admirable, however in this case couldn't you at least butter it up a bit for me? Much as I loved the series though and looking back with the rose-tints off, it would have taken some exceptional writing to make anything more of it to prevent a slide into just another average series. I'm glad overall that Firefly stopped when it did, although I would have loved to have seen the next 2 movies in the trilogy made.
