Had one that only took half an hour, Normal is about 8 hours.

Think it was just the end of a tape that the bulk data is held on.

how exactly does this thing know if the signal has been sent by an 'intelligent' life form? do they look for a pattern or something?

Basicly it looks for a Bell shape in the signal.

I think it's more likely the SETI client has found the unit to be undecipherable, either because it's corrupt or the original data is bad, so it just aborts. AFAIK you still get credit for a unit like this, though.

it doesn't

setiathome is funded by the CIA. they know exactly where the aliens are... :wink:
