Name: Cartel Shield Hacker
Version: 2.3
Date: 05.04.2007
Scripter: moggy2

  • The Device:
This very rare and expensive device allows a pirate to hack through the shields of another ships and transport the cargo off the target ship. The process only works over very close range, is slow, and is rather obvious to the victim.

In order to use the device you also need a transporter device, available from the Goner Temple, and a freight scanner, available from all good Pirate bases. You must be very close the target, for this device to work, and you must remain within this distance while the transporting takes place. The actual distance varies with the size of the target ships and the size of your own ship. Typically you're looking at about 200-250m from the target. The specific distance required is logged in the out of range error message you'll recieve if you're not close enough.

Because of the nature of the cargo transfer, goods are only transfered one unit at a time so the transfer may take quite a while if you try to take a large quantity. A message will be displayed once the transfer is complete.

Note that each unit transfered runs the risk of detection, and that risk is increases with the strength of the targets shields.

Where to get the shield hacker:
The supply of this device is limited, you can get it at Pirate owned stations but only one is likely to have any at any given time.

    Is that it?:
Were you expecting better instructions, an easier interface?

    We're Pirates not software engineers!

It says in the documentation that the shield hacker is only available at one single pirate base at a time... sou you need to find the right one.

As for me, I've checked out all the bases except the haven in Loomanckstrat's, and the one in bluish snout. The former for obvious reasons, the latter just won't become neutral to me no matter how long I wait. In other words, the hacker is sold in there, just out of my reach.

(If the programmer of that thing was a sadist, that would fit well, no? :P )

I've since decided to teach that base a lesson and blew it up. We'll see what happens when it respawns, once that happens

that seems a bit drastic, it'll still be red when it respawns IIRC.

You just need to got to the PB in New Income and get a hacker mission to hack the base. Worked for me.

You are aware that I was referring to the base in bluish snout, aren't you? ;)

Anyway, basically you're right of course... only that there comes the time when you run out of patience

There's a chance that it'll change location each time you load the game.

If you find it's somewhere inaccessable to you, then try reloading a couple of times untill it moves to somewhere you can get it.

My game had 14 Pirate Bases a while ago. If you go around and kill every Base that does not have one, you increase the chance to find it in the next one.

Gosh, just realized I visited a Base and forgot to check if it had one. Then I painted it red, so my other ships do not refuse to attack it. I have a list of "good sectors to have a Base in". Too bad the Pirates cannot read and need persuasion.

For which targets this thing work? Because I managed to buy one and inmediatly went to try, I tried scanning my target, staying as close as possible (less than 100m) and I didnt see any menu option or ship command or anything to use this.

How exactly does it work?

I installed version from latest bonus pack

And your ship was? BigShip? Your ship must be SmallShip.

Hi

Here you can find a list of all Pirate stations in the Universe (the Pirate Anarchy Port in LooManckStrats Legacy is not listed ;)) These is indeed only a List for vanilla X3 and for the case that you did not destroy any station in the past ;) - Except that in XS 597 it has obvious a very short life span.

Thanks

I found it in Brennans Triumph thanks for the replies.
It is too bad it only works on small ships though but anyway at least it works.

Location of the shield hacker?

Having just installed the updated bonus pack, i'm interested in trying out the cartel shield hacker but have yet to find it. I thought it might be on sale at a pirate base (if i left any!) - do you have to find it as dropped cargo from ships like the Cig. What is the verdict on it so far?

I'm still looking for it too!
