I just want to convert my saved X2 game(steam) to X3(steam), but I can't find the program folders.

Mistac2000,

Steam should have placed them somewhere like this:

x:\Program Files\STEAM\steamapps\common\x3 - reunion\

And just in case, you don't have to stay with STEAM for X3-Reunion. If you want to copy out the install folder you can.

Thanks Spoidz,

But I'm still missing a step. The script runs in X2, but when I go to spec. comm. in X3 there is not an option to start the converter. One thing I'm wondering is I have an SPK file that the readme doesn't tell where to place. Does this need to be placed anywhere? Also when I rename the log file it continued showing as text. Could that be the problem. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Mistac2000,

I'm not sure where you are at and I never used the X2-X3 converter, only X3-X3.

1) Did you make sure you activated the Script-Editor (Thereshallbewings) in your X3 game? Did you use ONLY the X2-X3 converter files in both games?

2) The .spk is used with the Plugin Manager to install the converter. If you MANUALLY copied all the scripts into the right places, then ignore the .spk files. Don't use both, but the .spk will guarantee that everything is in the right place. Recheck that you copied everything correctly.

3) You have to be careful when converting that file. It starts as a .txt file. It is best to open it in a text editor (Notepad or Notepad++). When opened, SAVE-AS making sure the format is encoding="UTF-8". Make sure you end up with a file that is named 448758.xml

NOT 448758.xml.txt or 448758.txt.xml

If you simply renamed it and it asks to change the format say YES otherwise it won't change the type.

Try these checks and let us know we'll try to help further

Spoidz,

I checked everything twice. Re-did the steps. No dice. I guess it just won't work on my system.

Well if you really want to keep going, you can always copy out that X3 install and add XTM or any other mod you'd like and start a new game.

You can cheat in everything you had before (Money, ships, stations, Fight Rank) except they'll be the new X3 ships instead of X2.

Is there a way I can send someone file that the converter creates and have them convert it to X3 and then send me the save? In other games we would do this from time to time, for instance if someone couldn't beat a certain section. You could send the get the saved game, beat the mission and then return it to the original user.

Unfortunately it probably wouldn't work because the other person would either have to have a completely Vanilla install or you would both have to have the exact same scripts/mods running.

That file does not get converted, it gets read into X3 and X3 simply adds the contents to the game.

Like I said before, what are you trying to save that you can't just cheat back in to a new X3 game?

Spoidz,

Honestly, I'm just too lazy to write down all the details of my empire and then script it in. Remembering what weapons are installed and where they are. Also, I suck at scripting and I'm used to just loading mods or what not and having everything setup like magic.

Well I guess it is choice time.

You can either start a new game and cheat in what you had before, or

If you want to keep trying to get the converter to work I'll continue to help you troubleshoot it.

If you want to troubleshoot it, you should really start by copying out that STEAM install and get it clean as possible then archive it. From then on, no need to worry about STEAM overwriting anything and you can start over fresh whenever you want.

If you do this you will also have a clean install to add any new mods like XTM and New Horizons etc.

Just let me know and I will give you some more help.

x3 to x3 converter for x3 reunion

Post by carlnicholls » Tue, 31. Mar 09, 23:00

Does anybody know how I can get a download of the x3 converter? Every time I get onto the download page it's in German and is also restricted. Please help as I have just had to re-intall X3 Reunion with X-Tended and Plug in Manager with a load of extra ships which means my old save game no longer works. If any body has any ideas please help.
Has everybody gave up on Reuion as a lot of links seem to be dead?

Sim108,

Remember to follow the readme.

Code: Select all

a file with the name log08758.txt was created. This file must now be copied into the "t"-folder. Then it has to be renamed to "448758.xml".
That "t" folder is in your X3 installation location.

After you rename that file to 448758.xml make sure to put a copy somewhere safe. You can re-use it any time you want to start a NEW XTM game.

After you do that, then install XTM and start a new XTM game and run the "read".

carlnicholls,

That site is German but it is hosting the universal version of the X3Converter.

Just look in the bottom of that box on the web page. There is a white English Download button in the bottom middle of that frame.

Just type in the code letters in the grey box to the right and it will allow you to download it.

Sim108,

Once you open the Script Editor in Vanilla, it is opened forever, you don't need to reopen it.

If you opened it in Vanilla and then installed XTM to that same location, it will still be open when you start X3.

I'm not sure exactly what you "saved it and loaded it"

Did XTM start up ok and will it let you start a new game?
