lol, there's more posts in this thread talking about how off topic it is than there are actually answering the question.
Might as well go with the 6800. the AGP version is actually pretty cheap. Go for the best, you should be able to string it out longer before needing to upgrade again.
EDIT: somehow I missed that link to the 7 pages of video crad blah blah

What are the best Nvidia Drivers for X3?
Hey there,
I've tried running X3 with the latest 81.85 Nvidia drivers and although it is quite smooth it still gets jerky at some times (in the intro with the ships flyby for example) I was wondering if anyone found a driver to be better than the latest ones (tried searching back in the posts for the past hour but haven't found anything relevant)
My config:
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+
Memory: 1024MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra 256Mb
well of to try and tweak the settings.

*Edit* Well, just tried them and they didn't seem to make a difference, in fact it seemed a bit slower with those, I think I'm gona stick with the 81.85 and try to tweak the game a bitnuclear_eclipse wrote:The 78.01 drivers are MUCH better for use with X3. I suggest holding off on the upgrade for now, and go back to 78.01 if at all possible.
thanks for the suggestion though
the standard 6800's can be hard for about £80Nividium wrote:cheap as in £200? that aint cheap...scoochy wrote:lol, there's more posts in this thread talking about how off topic it is than there are actually answering the question.

as far as performance goes, the 6800LE is just below the 6600GT but with the extra 4 pipelines of the standard 6800 pushes it just ahead of the 6600GT
The main advantage of these cards is there clocking potential alot are able to unlock the extra pipelines and shaders while increase the clock speeds of the gpu and memory.
If your lucky u can get a standard 6800 or 6800LE is simlar performance as the 6800GT
but even if u cant get it that far, its still quite alot quicker than the 6600GT and for roughly the same price
the 256bit memory bandwidth will also help alot in games over the 128bit of the 6600GT
I just run the Everest Tool as suggested on the first page and In a report on my crappy GeForce 4 Ti4800SE its said this -
Field Value
AGP Status Disabled
Supported AGP Speeds 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x
Field Value
Problem AGP is disabled. This may cause performance penalty.
Im a bit of a n00b when it comes to these things - ive looked in the BIOS setup (where I thought the option to enable AGP was) and I cant find anything - am I doing something wrong - why is AGP disabled?
a fast response would be cool as Im going out to look at new cards in a min. I just wanna know if this AGP thing is making a huge difference

Best ATI drivers? 9600
Hey everyone
wanted to post this in tech support, but as i've yet to get the game (anyone in Canada have it?), i cant post there.
specific card: Sapphire Radeon 9600 Atlantis (128mb)
current drivers: omega 2.5.58
what are the best drivers out there right now?

I buy at Newegg.com about year ago. But I'm not sure I still need to upgrade RAM, I have no problem set max X-2 but not sure X-3, I should get DVD in 2-3 day laters, (Hopeful)Laughing_Monkey wrote:im thinking about getting that card (Radeon ATI 9800 Pro 256mb) - how do you find it?
In relation to graphics etc and most importantly X3 (and X2 if ur having probs with x3)
As I have said before, this game feels like a game written for the next generation of PCs. Therefore, if you don't have a current gen graphics card, you will struggle to run the game in decent detail. You need an ATI X series card or an nvidia 6600, 6800 or 7800 ideally. Even my X800XL isn't always convincing at times espeiclaly when lots of stations and ships are in view and it's trying to deal with all the movement and rotations.
I just hope the 9600s and 9800s are up to the job more so than the FX based systems which I know can take performance hits with shaders.
