[X3AP] Now you see it, now you don't

Finally reached the end of Shady Business. There are tales about that, but first things first. There were some diplomatic bastu events. As side-effect, my ship log mentions that an unmarked Assassin Hoshi was claimed. That is true. I do confess.

Now the fireworks are over and the Hoshi is no longer on my roster. There is no log entry about its death either. :-o

Previous save, with some 4 kills to go, has the Hoshi exactly where I left it.

Does not compute.

Lost to a hole in the space-time continuum... err, forced despawn?

Indeed. Sometimes capture does not remove the ship from the plot outcome script, so when the plot outcome is reached the ship still does what it was meant to do, ie disappear. Perhaps if you get the Hoshi running some script rather than just floating in space this will overcome the latent outcome script. If you want to experiment, give it an order to protect something and finish the plot. A more direct sledgehammer to apply to the problem would be to arrange to actually be on board the Hoshi when the plot outcome script activates, since it can't disappear with you on board. Intermediate approach would be to at least board the ship personally for an "inspection tour" after capture, since a pass through player ship status tends to kill a lot of latent attachments.

Option simple, of course, is to sell that sucker before triggering the despawn event.

Those criminals. They give us honest assassins bad rep. I can resort to Tomahawks on a mission, but to use the game engine is below acceptable.

If you want to experiment,
Without a question.

I have that pre-save (A), where the Hoshi exists and the post-save (B) after the despawn. 12 ingame Mizuras apart.
No DiD. No "set up zillion traders", just plain old killing of Xenon. It is quite feasible to rerun.

Great! Looking forward to seeing how that turns out.

Here is the deal:

At timepoint A I'm in Black Hole Sun. The "Kill Segaris" has been completed.
The "Kill 4 more Capitals in BHS" is still on. Hence, there are Xenon all over.
The Hoshi is still in the Unknown. Luckily, it has JD and enough fuel.

A digress:
I did start the "Kill 25+25" in BHS. At some point I did realise that the friendly stations there can offer "Kill Xenon" missions.

Hypothetically, a "Defend BHS against Xenon Invasion" did pop up, but the Xenon kept spawning after the "Kill 25" was complete. While reward accumulates nicely, the paying mission appeared rather long. Scrap that thesis and formulate a new.

Take a break from BHS. "Kill 6 more Capitals in BHS" can wait. Go to Segaris and wipe thoroughly. Station there is too far and too red to offer any missions. Then wait until BHS offers money. (During that wait some Pirates stole a Daemos, which my Marines recovered as practice. From BHS. Hence the 6 -> 4.)

Okay. We are in BHS. There is a very easy "Kill all Xenon" on the BBS. About 120mil to be gained, thanks to stacking(?).

Original: Hoshi did nothing and vanished at some point.

Rerun 1:
* Hoshi: "Jump to me". (There are Xenon, I'm fast and armed with a Beacon.)
* Sit in the Hoshi for a moment.
* Hoshi: "Jump to foo and follow bar"
* Proceed to kill Xenon
* The fireworks cut-scene shows. The Hoshi does exists right after it.
* Finish the Xenon to complete the "Kill all"
* Check message log, including the "Peace for our lifetime"
* There is no Hoshi

The Hoshi had been the playership and it was running a command, but that is not enough protection. I have to test the "use the Boss".

Well, if you are in the Hoshi and it still disappears I hope they have internet wherever you wind up. :-o

A quick poll among the employees did return that the Boss sitting in unshielded and unarmed hulk amidst Xenon Invasion is a "Win-Win" for the Company. :gruebel:

The Goners had fixed my UFJD. Lets proceed then. No more "Purple Python has solo fun".

Predictably, message log now has:
Your ship T-800 was destroyed in Black Hole Sun by Cobra-03.
Must have been third T-800 by now. I start to suspect a design flaw.
One Nova Raider from Red Wing was lost too, but that is not on the log.

There was one additional batch of Xenon (I+J+K+K+...) that did spawn after the fireworks. They got counted into the "Kill all Xenon". A 290mil "very easy".

I did not go "poof". Checked all messages before leaving. Told the Hoshi to jump to PHQ. Finally left BHS myself. Timepoint is later than in the original run. The Hoshi is still with us.

Interestingly, after both missions were over, couple lone LX were spotted in BHS. Each had spawned about one minute ago.

There we go then. The Hoshi is saved. I expect a commission, since you have that easy 290 million burning a hole in your pocket.

You are now a Midshipman in jlehtone's fleet service. (You are also the Officer of the Day today so report to the Executive Officer in the Hoshi's Wardroom pretty sharpish!)

:o Who let Alan into our HR? Security Alert!

Standard ship recovery fee, via Profit Guild wire transfer, as usual. :teladi:
(Totally unlike these.)

Hypothetically, if someone would be really efficient at commandeering assassin vessels, say by letting some harm come to the pesky, meddling OTAS ships, they would need more expendable bosses too?

 Had I known to wait for a rewarding mission before doing any charity in BHS ... did I just forfeit a billion of easy credits?

Wait, what? I'm impressed? I'm in sales, not sails!
