Or maybe I'm just thinking about annoying codec that X series been using that doesn't mesh well with any good codec out there. Can't believe ES never fixed that mp3 codec b/s .... tsk....
Huh!? The X series uses the standard Windows set of codecs. It's some of the misbehaving third-party codecs that try to masquerade as the Windows ones that cause the problems. Always has been. :P

That is entirely incorrect.
The issue is that X3 uses DirectShow for audio mp3 to be specific I think mp2 too, and it doesn't properly check for audio formats that the decoder provides it just slaps w/e it has and uses it as 16bit PCM. Calling it sloppy and shoddy would be kind.

Most high end audio processing hardware and a lot of gpu cards and some professional rendering/processing software for audio/video use their own decoders.

X3 doesn't care... it just uses w/e it gets and throws it as 16bit. If you check youtube you can find plethora of videos where if you bother to listen closely you can hear soundtrack(music) being distorted and tossed out as aggravating noise. Yes if you run some generic setup you probably won't hit that problem... in some cases its not bad enough for you to hear it. But any high end audio processing hardware with its own set of libraries will make playing x3 with sound impossible.

It's not my imagination... I'm not just randomly bashing it. It's a well documented issue, there are tools in s/m section that "help" sort things out and there are plenty of other work-arounds posted.

In short if you are running custom ffd/lav mp3 tracks will convert musinc into static noise/screech. That's a fact. If you are capable of viewing .mkv files you have lav installed.

Btw... this was NEVER fixed. Problem is still there by this very day.

No, you are incorrect. I've been helping players sort their codec issues in the Tech Support forum for a long time, and it is definitely badly behaved third party codecs that cause the problems. The devs have stated many, many times that the issue is with how windows handles codecs, not the game, since the game doesn't actually do it.

Now, I know how much you're currently into bashing Egosoft for every little thing. But this is most definitely not their fault nor the fault of the game. So you're the one who needs to get your facts straight.

Hmm... And here I thought I defended ES so well on every step... apparently not. Guess even going as far as calling failed experiments productive in different way and staying out of rebirth forums is bashing. Oh well... You "definitely" know better.

Sorry, that should have been "people are currently". I didn't mean to single you out specifically. But it does seem to be the general fad at the moment. And you are doing it here. :P

Nuh huh... I've always been on ES side except when it comes to their communication skills... which I do bash always. And few things that are made wonky...
Take current lack of patches. Now from experience I'd say they are working on something bigger then bug fixes... yet people go ballistic and call it the end. Why is it so hard to just bloody say: "Well folks, remember we said that once we fix a good chunk of bugs we will start working on bigger improvements too? It's that time... stay tuned." But noooooo... they have to keep quiet about everything and give more reason for trolls to go wild.

Who cares that most X titles on release never got more then 5/10... and Rebirth is NOT the first X title to get 3/10. That all gets swept under a rug and ES just ignores this. I'm not asking for the old level of involvment ES gave back in X,X2 days where they would fix saves for us and stuff. That is just not plausible anymore but cmon... a little info won't kill someone. Even if team is about 20 people how hard is to tell CBJ for one to feed crowd some info? I mean hes practically living on forums...not sure he is even human and sleeps.

Anyway... this is going way off topic.
