X3TC: Hostile ship for no reason

Post by Rao » Wed, 7. Aug 13, 23:09

Hello to all,

I have a problem with Argon Military Titan. I set up 8-station complex a 5 advanced satellites in Ore Belt, and everything went good. But then suddenly in sector appeared Titan with his fleet. Titan is hostile, his fleet is blue. I did not shoot him either by guns or missiles (even by mistake). When I noticed him I was in Omicron Lyrae, and one of advanced satellites were missing (dunno know how, by whom, when). I jumped back, tried to apologize, got him blue for few seconds. Then he again turned red and took down another satellite. Then he went blue by himself. I docked and saved.

If it stayed this way, I would go with it, but with Khaak cluster in system I went to take cluster down, shot Aurora missile (the one with area effect) to take it down and shot remaining fighter. The Titan was red again after detonation of missile, but he was some 40 km away. Here I loaded and tried to wait for someone to take cluster down for me.

As you might imagine Titan headed in direction (at this part i was not looking, but i think that this is what happened:), took down cluster, turned red to me and decided to took down my complex.

Another load, another SETA-waiting another disappointment.

In all tries I went to apologize him a few times with no permanent effect.

Please anyone, have you any idea why this is happening and how to solve it without receiving modified tag in my profile? And taking him down also isn't an opinion (M4 wont do the job).

BTW, i am Hero of the Federation. :/

Check friend foe settings for all your ships in the area issue a global command to ensure Argon are friends.
Then apologise again.

What kind of stations do you have in your complex? Any illegal goods?

Check friend foe settings, as above.

Also, make sure your automated traders are NOT buying and selling Space Fuel from the distilleries in Herron's Nebula or Nyanna's Hideout. If the range of the traders can reach those sectors, they can decide to trade in Space Fuel, and Space Fuel is illegal for you with the Argon.

The Argon will attack your traders, and any Space Fuel factories that you have built yourself. They ignore the ones that belong to the NPCs but they attack yours. And you will lose standings and the ships will go red on you, because of that.

Other stuff that is illegal in Argon space: Space Weed, Squash Mines (factories will be attacked). Also Slaves, Spaceflies, and System Override Software extensions - all ships carrying these will be attacked if scanned.

If you are playing X3AP (not X3TC), Omicron Lyrae is a war sector, and any ships in war sectors will be attacked as soon as you personally leave the sector. The Terrans will attack, or the Argons will attack, depends on who has lower standings, but they will attack even if you are at max rank with them.

Friend/Foe setting is friend with Argon, none of Argon ships are attacking me or my traders, except this one Titan. And he has attacked only me, when i come into his weapon range (cca 4.5 km). And satellites, of course. Traders stand in complex/out of system. Also, when he turned blue for longer time, traders went out of complex trading. But his icon remained red on side of screen but in map he was blue. Kinda weird, at least for me.

About factories: Ore and silicon mine (with yield 56 resp. 64 :-) ), wheat, beef, meatstakes, mosquito missiles, solar ppl and rimes textile in one complex. None of them illegal as far as i know ;-)

And concerning illegal goods, i have 2 free traders (trading software Mk3) in different sectors, with no problem. And 4 ships with commercial representation order (i have official bonus pack, but only this, none other mod etc.).

Also my version is Steam, if that matter.

I had this issue in M148 with an Osaka (M2) I had set to patrol the sector. Even out-of-sector (OOC) he would occasionally pop (or bump?) a friendly accidentally - causing the Teladi to hate me.

Have you tried comming the aggro'd ship and seeing if you get the "Ooops, sorry, I did not mean to shoot you" dialogue option?

Yep, tried it several times under different circumstances, sometimes id didnt work at all, sometimes he was okay for a sec or two, once or two times for longer time, but allways he went back to hostility.

And i have no ships at patrol/attack/defend etc. I do all fighting myself (sort of fun in M4 Elite :D )

Hmm... Ok, this didnt crossed my mind. I do almost only defend/kill missions (money and fun :D ) and keep anything which i can, so i have a few dozens of almost destroyed ships in whole universe. (I didnt know it is possible to repair them with my space suit ´till now.) I plan to keep them as patrol/reverse-engineering. But to find out which is making Titan mad will be "interesting".

Also none of my recently capcured ships is in same sector as Titan but i will try this solution in few hours (i am not at my PC right now).

The "usual" cause of a race ship turning hostile, and staying that way, is that you or one of your ships killed a civilian, or repeatedly attacked a station.

This CAN happen after a Defend Station mission, where one of the attackers bails after wasting a civilian ship or making repeated passes at the station. In essence, that SHIP has been flagged as a "killer", and a race ship (the Titan, in your case) has been assigned to hunt it down. Forcing the pilot to bail and claiming the ship makes you the owner of that targeted ship, and if that assigned hunter spots either that ship or you, it will proceed to deliver "justice" until the ship is destroyed. Apologies don't solve the underlying problem.

It can also happen if a civilian ship collides with one of your stations while you're somewhere else in the sector; you may not even notice that it happened, unless it drops some wares when it's destroyed. Once again, a race ship will then be assigned as an enemy of that station, to halt its murderous rampage. As before, there is no remedy until the offending station is destroyed. Taking out the assigned race military ship just puts you on hostile terms with the rest of the race.

This problem can be sharply reduced by selling any bailed ships that you claim as quickly as possible, and by limiting how much time you spend in sectors where you have a factory or complex. You may be able to salvage things if you know which ship is causing the problem (if you're currently flying a bailed and claimed Pirate ship, for instance). Ultimately, it's led to me abandoning at least half of the games I've started, and is by far my biggest complaint about the game.

Once it becomes red it doesn't matter anymore if you destroy the ship it's chasing.

If you don't have a save from earlier then blow it up if you can or drop a station on top of it. Your reputation should be enough to walk away with it.

Great, i do not think i have older saves, but i will try to find some.

What i am curious is fact, that i really have cca 30 ships, only 3 bought, but this happened now? 27 ships ago was okay? Werid, but chances here are.

Rather i would expect that after claiming a ship, it would reset ships status, and behave like fresh, just bought, shining one (Jon cant be held responsible for Mikes actions and vice versa). Well it seems it isnt the case.

Well, thanks for ideas, when i will be able, i will try them and report back.

you could use the missile-trick if you own an M8 with missiles.
send barrages towards the target and jump into another ship.
let the M8 jump out to another sector and watch the fireworks.
your reputation shouldn't be affected that way.
correct me if I'm wrong on this, I only read about it.
personally I haven't used this technique.

It might have happened 27 ships ago, but you just encountered the race military ship that's been looking for you the whole time. That's the real killer with the problem, that ANY of your previously claimed ships (or a station) could be the problem, but the hunter on the opposite end of the universe didn't happen to bump into it for 10 days or so. It could also have happened three times before in your game, but each time the hunter encountered a stray Q or Pirate capital along the way and got toasted.

I NEVER keep a bailed ship that I can't vouch for where it's been and what it's done since it spawned. If I take a mission and see it spawn out of a gate, then I know that it has no previous history of blowing up civilians. If it was part of a wandering Pirate patrol, it gets sold as quickly as I can strip the equipment, patch up the hull, and get it to a Shipyard for immediate sale.

Good luck dealing with your unexpected follower.

You know, in all the TC game starts I've played over the last five years, I think I've encountered this kind of situation only once or twice. And I'm a very prolific capturer of ships, especially from Defend Station missions. I don't think I've ever had one of those captures cause a problem, and it's been so long ago that I had this problem that I can't really say what caused it.

But my perception of this issue is that it's a random bug of some sort unrelated to any particular player-owned ship. It's more likely that some hostility flag on the offending NPC ship gets accidently set due to some special set of circumstances, and the only way to resolve the issue is to get rid of the hostile ship somehow. As mentioned above, dropping a station on it works nicely, but using the 'not my missiles' technique is probably the best.

Now, Reunion did have a rare problem with captured ships, where what you described did happen, and I remember several times it happened to one of my captured ships. But as I recall it was fixed in one of the last Reunion patches, and so probably wasn't carried over to TC or AP.
