X3TC; I went back to the beginning.. ACK!!!

Taxi missions are the easiest of the large paying missions. The best ones are usually either "Military" where you must transfer several troops to a station or "Workers" where you transfer a several workers. In other words, the ones with several passengers at once end up paying the most. And, they only get better as your Rep climbs... I made over 7 million in one trip transferring a group of workers from Heretic's End to Omicron Lyrae last night. But, my Reputation is maxed with the Argon and that means, supposedly, I received the maximum payout for that mission. *
*Edit-Correction - It's Trade Rank, not Reputation, that determines the amount awarded from missions.

I think Trade rank is also taken into account when determining those mission payouts, if anyone knows better feel free to correct me. As for top dollar, my best has been 12 million credits for 15 passengers, from Elysium of Light to Black Hole Sun (super easy with a Jumpdrive equipped TP)

Ah, that's right. It's Trade Rank, not Reputation Rank, that determines the payout. Thanks for the reminder! Thanks guys. Some great advice.
I had totally forgotten about the free ships. I went and found the Iguana Vanguard which is one of my faves. If you 'turbo' the thing with the Cycrow cheat, its incredibly fast. But.... I have a good hauler now and last night, I got to nearly 1/2 Million credits from finding jobs hauling people around. I purchased the engine updates and boost, got her to nearly 200 m/s, found she already had a docking computer, and I was off! Purchased the jump drive at Terra HQ, and did some test jumps to see how much they cost per length of jump. Kind of pricey, but I need to know.
I want to get the Mercury armed with full trading equipment and start it on a trade run, probably in a ore sector up near Ceo's Buckzoid, just south.
Nice.......! Definately a challenge for the business oriented.

Ore isn't a good trade item unless you can find a few areas where there is really a scarce supply before various race's economies heat up. After that, it's hit and miss. But, trading Energy to ore mines, especially if there are a lot in a sector, can be decent business. Silicon can be lucrative, though, if you can find a good run. But, the best profits of the two are made by your own miners, if you don't mind dedicating a few ships to it.lionheart_001 wrote:...

Food and food components are always good starters. When you can't find good deals on those, load up on energy at a good price to pay for the lost time.

First Steps!
Forgotten the free ships hey!
Now that is the sign of a player used to the high life.
With my first trading I went; Energy, Silicon, Crystals, Tech. goods and weapons. If I saw scarcity demand, I would trade food and Ore, bearing in mind all this was manually controlled trading, doing market research for placing my first factories and before the release of bonus pack for enhanced auto-trading. Not having sold my disco, I was able to manually control my first freighters while doing missions and be available to jump in and protect my traders if necessary, as jump drives were bought and used as soon as affordable.
Good Luck and have an interesting time climbing out of that awful initial poverty!

Is that so?It does, but a lot of players automatically sell the disco for trading capital right at the start.
On my very first game, I didn't even know what a Disco was. It was green, it had numbers, and that was nice. After half a day I had it escort me around until it mysteriously vanished. It was one of my first lessons on the autopilock.
Trade and fight rank are the PRIMARY multipliers on mission rewards. You want to get these values up ASAP. It doesn't take long for mission rewards to get up to half a mil, and when you get the hang of it they'll shoot up.I think Trade rank is also taken into account when determining those mission payouts, if anyone knows better feel free to correct me.
MK3 traders will give a steady supply of trade rank. Buy low, sell high. There are a few exploits related to this, which I won't discuss here. Seek them out at your own peril.
It's a good idea to build ammo/missile factories to work on fight rank. These weapons will dominate many missions early on. I don't recall if drone/wingmen kills count towards fight rank. I'm inclined to say they don't.

Up to 650 L cargo & 159 speed, 100MJ shield total. IMO it's good in the trade role purely because it's free. Personally I prefer to use it as a defence/supply ship for my TL when I get one..AgamemnonArgon wrote:There is a free ship - Blastclaw Prototype - that is out there, that would make an ideal Trade ship.
IMO; the best automated (CAG, CLS or Mk3) trade ship you should aspire to is the Chokaro TM: 154 speed, 400MJ shields & 2000 XL cargo; plus it can retrieve its fight drones if it stays IS, as it has 3 docking bays (being automated it'll pick up fight drones for use as defence automatically if you give it Fight Mk2 s/w). Yaki rep isn't difficult to gain enough to trade with their shipyard, even if you remain KoS in their core sector. Its defence weapons aren't technically as good as the BCP, but the shielding should hold off up to a Q long enough to jump away.. & if it's a Q, any trade ship is dead meat anyway.
There are better ships for more specialised jobs, but the Chokaro wins hands down as an all-round trader IMO

The Chokaro is my favorite ship of choice for multi-purpose tasking, including trade.
Next up is the Ryu.
There are of course advantages to the Mistrel or other ships.
The Elephant could be used instead of the Ryu.
But each pilot has their own favorite ships for specific tasks.
It's just that I favour Yaki ships in general, because they are seemingly more versatile.
I head to Yaki space asap when I start a new game, just to curry favour with them.
There are other ships I like for specific tasks though.

Been playing X3TC for a few years now, off and on. Got quite the empire going to, and did it all via vanilla. I started with one of the terran starts, and turned the various storyline missions into cash. Things were slow until I was awarded the Argon Griffon light carrier/frigate, but once I had that, I could do the more lucrative combat missions, some paying as much as 17 million a pop. I now have two large complexes, one building commonwealth goods, the other building terran goods, I have one terran carrier, the Tokyo, one argon destroyer, the Boreas, my Griffon, several fighters of all sizes including the xperimental shuttle, several freighters from various races, and I even managed to find and board an Aran. No modding or scripting even though I know the one that allows you to get anything you want including the Valhalla
When you reach for the stars, some poor slob will try to shoot you down. Blow him away, pick up his cargo and continue on your merry way
