Overtuning ships, repair laser and 2nd HQ in TC vanilla. Exploit howto with pictures)

I was toying with the exploit that allows cloning rare wares and I found that it can actually be used to overtune your ships. Between rudder, speed, and cargo bay size speed and rudder parameters can be increased, all in vanilla :) Here is how.

What you will need:
- a CLS2 trader with a transporter device
- a ship that can dock it. I used a TL but TM or a carrier should work as well
- 8 HEPT guns
- Ship to overtune. This ship should *not* be already maxed out.

The setup:
- Load 8 HEPT guns to the ship you are going to over-tune. Capital ships don't seem to work - should be a fighter or may be an M6 (to be verified). I used the cutlass I got from the terran plot.
- Max out its speed. For this example we will overtune speed.
- Dock it on the EQ dock in Three Worlds
- Configure your CLS trader to load 8 HEPT guns from the ship you are overtuning and then unload them to the TL

- Place your TL at a short distance from the same EQ dock.

- Make sure your CLS pilot is docked on the TL and start the CLS2 script for it
- Open the trade interface with the EQ dock for the ship you are overtuning.
- Go to the line with cargo bay tuning and press END. Do not press ENTER yet and wait until your CLS pilot picks up the HEPT.
EDIT: Looking at how many people overtuned ships to some insane speed this way, I suggest instead of pressing END entering the number of tuning you want to get and pressing the right arrow on the keyboard.

- Once HEPT are picked up, the trade UI will shift one line to the engine tuning. All you have to do at this point is press ENTER.

- Repeat as needed :)

EDIT: It actually does work on capital ships, you just need to un-equip HEPT before starting the script. This applies to any other ship as well.

EDIT2: Here is a link to glenmcd find how to get a repair laser using a similar approach: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php? ... &start=167

Sounds cool :) Congrats on this nice find!! :)

But I have some questions:
-Will it work anywhere, or only in Three Worlds?
-Will it work with any ware, or only 8*HEPT?
-Why is it working? :) I mean, what is the underlying mechanism of this... well... exploit?

It will work on any EQ dock that doesn't have HEPT on the ware list. With other wares it will work on any EQ dock that does not have that particular ware.
Mechanism is basically a game bug exploit in the trade UI. It is also possible to conjure some wares via this mechanism that are not available in the game because of other bugs (i.e. Experimental EMPC)

Wow, very nice, thanks for clearing it up :)
Just 1 or 2 overtune for a personal ship with this method is a perfect thing for me to make that ship special, thanks a lot!

It is extremely easy to overdo the tuning. I just ended up with a Carrack going 1220 m/s :)

Vanilla + exploit sounds odd to me, as I'm a honest script user

Great find! Too bad my Hyperion is already maxed out. Now I'll have to find another one

Finally, I'm going to have a decent-speed Aran. :D
50-60 m/s should be enough. That will be a great baseship. Thanks a lot amigo!

best regards,
Rhox

One more thing to test: if you try to buy the last available equipment of the EQ then it'll jump to the Caro Extension?

No, but you can reverse your CLS script to deliver HEPT *to* the ship you are overtuning and it will jump from the speed line. That means you can overtune speed and cargo (but not rudder). We can finally get a Tyr with enough cargo to hold an all-PSP layout

Big difference man. You are getting labeled as a *cheater*, we are not :D I'm preparing now for a Steam DID run and making sure I can complete HUB in like half an hour there :)
