wouldnt it be good if there was a multiplayer version of X, set up like world of warcraft.

edit- i dont get it, why do 3/4 of the voters vote against it. if you dont like it and it was made it wont kill you, its not like everyone will leave the single player games and you would get lonely :P

Seems more like a question of prediction. I don't think anyone knows if an Internet version would be good. If it was made, we wouldn't know if it was good or bad until we played it.

:D

Aaargh.. Just when you thought it was safe to revisit the forums...

I like it solitary sergoba. Other things I do involve people interaction, but I like to choose who these people are - Such online games can attract social garbage unfortunately.

I played wow (hardcore) for 2 years and I'm totally glad to be rid of all the screaming kiddies and the totally greed based formula. If you could craft X3 online so that it was not greed based and "leet I'm the pwn" then sure, it might be grand, but the reality of any game where self promotion if the main goal then you'll just end up with elitism and squabbling about what is and isn't fair.

Sometimes it's great to play alone, particularly, backed up with this community which makes it feel kind of 50% offline and 50% online.

What, don't tell me you haven't heard about the new UFO base either?

I don't think an MMO X universe would work. BUT! being able to do something like allow Co op would be fun. I would love to allow my friends to Flight Fighters or command ships in my Game.

Allowing fleet battle between two players would be fun as well. Something like what was done In the total war games. They could give you a small board of something like 9 sectors. Then a set number of Credits to buy a fleet with. You would then have an objective to accomplish in a set amount of time. One person might be on the defensive and the other on offensive. I think that would be fun.

Read the thread Dragoongfa linked to (or is it one of the threads linked off it? Where's Carlo when you need him...) for an explanation why co-op or any LAN version is less likely to be made than an MMO.

It may or may not be good but it definitely wouldn't be X.

And I shudder to think what would happen to this lovely forum.

It would be full of people asking why there wasn't a single player X game....

oh well um oops

anyway i may as well post it now its written,

i think that an internet based multiplayer version of X ( like the world of warcraft) would be a great game i mean think about it. you start a new game and get 10,000 credits. then you choose a race and depending on how many other people are n each race, have to buy the race they wish to be. if one race is more outnumbered than another that race is cheaper. after that you get given an M5 and choose a main starting career and depending on wich you choose your ship will get a few upgrades, like if you choose police, a frieght scanner and a few speed upgrades or if merchant some cargo bay extensions. like with the choice of race the choice of career would cost different ammounts to keep a balanced amount of proffesions. after this any left over credits and another 1000 credits get given to the player and they are spawned in one of thier races home sectors trading station.

life in a multiplayer X universe would be much more realistic. on stations one could submit messages on the BBS board and trade goods. players could send one another credits and messages and in other words higher other players to work for them. players working as police would get cash awards for taking down ships tagged as criminals for attacking others and khaak and even a millitary fleet coul be formed and given millitary missions by an npc or moderator. like in the other games a rank system could be put in place but rther than limiting what npc missions on the BBS you could take they could be used to stop bad pilots from getting multiple ships, eg: a new player can have only thier one M5 but they gain a few ranks in the trading area, and are allowed to buy a TS or a good fighter being allowed to get an M4. as the player gains ranks they are allowed to have better and more ships. if the ranking system worked like this then once a player reaches a certian combat rank they could be sent a message and an award. the award being a secondd account where they are given a khaak M5, a one milliwatt shield, an alpha kyon emmitor, and a khaak jumpdrive. the khaak jumpdrive not needing any energy cells and only being able to jump from a khaak sector. that way they jump to an enemy sector and kill until they die. then the pilot and thier ship is respawned after a certian amount of time in a khaak sector, in a khaak trading station. the ship would still have all upgrades and any credits earnt by the player for killing enemy ships would be kept. as the player got better ranks as a khaak eventually they would be awarded a M3 and after that khaak clusters, getting bigger with rank. if you are playing as a khaak cluster you wouldnt be able to split until in enemy territory and once you did all of the split off khaak would ust be robots controlled by you. if as a khaak you got a high enogth rank you could be awarded a third account where you could play as the xenon in gamplay with mixed elements from khaak and normal.

sergoba, Did you read the responses? :)

If you put 'In Theory' in front of what you wrote Id agree, but as soon as you add the human element all bets are off.

You have far too much faith in human nature. You need to become old, wrinkly and cynical like the rest of us...

Wonder what's going on with XOA... looked interesting even without being able to read much on the site the last time.

Did have an idea but figured it would go nowhere.
