exogenesis, could you make available for download the old version 1.1.1.6 + 1.1.2.3 patch on your website again?
The new 2.0.0.2 version seems great but it is not compatible to the following installation:
1. X3 Reunion
2. 2.5 update
3. XTM 0.7.5
4. Open.Combat.System. - Apollo scripts
5. Combat mod 2
6. Military Hud MkII
7. Bonus pack
(installed on XP SP3 by the way)
The old version with the patch was working fine though.
Thanks for your great work, and I hope the new version will eventually become compatible to XTM but the old versions will suffice for now.
If you have paypal, I'd buy you a beer!

Hi leesti,
I know that 2.0.0.2 works fine with :
1. X3 Reunion
2. 2.5 update
7. Bonus pack
XTM 0.7a to 0.73
What problem did you find exactly?
Not 100% sure about :
3. XTM 0.7.5 - haven't tried this yet, suppose I should really.
Could you give a link to the below items (just to be sure we're talking about the same thing)
4. Open.Combat.System. - Apollo scripts
5. Combat mod 2
6. Military Hud MkII
(but just-script mods should have no effect on the viewer at all)
I'm specifically not going to attempt to support multiple old versions,
there's too much missing in them.
i.e. the current version will be made work with anything people
find it currently doesn't work with, if possible.
I just need to be informed if anything is found it doesn't work with,
like you just have

exogenesis, thanks for the quick answer!
The Open combat system (Apollo), Combat mod 2 version 1.10 and Military Hud MkII mod are found at http://www.thexuniverse.com/forum/showt ... adid=11418 and the mods have been installed in the order I've specified in the first post.
I know the old viewer+patch worked fine with all those installed (including XTM 0.7.5 of course).
The new version has the same problem I was experiencing with the old viewer without the 1.1.2.3 patch: it loads some cat files and then crashes to desktop without any message.
I followed your instructions to enable debugging and using CamStudio I was able to read the following:
2.0.0.2 starts stating "Reading game object files: Un-Modded Game"
It goes to "Reading ships:" and I can see some modded ships like Panther M1 being loaded. I see the Status as "Loaded OK".
It then goes to "Reading factories:" and again I see the Status as "Loaded OK".
Finally it goes to "Reading ware template file:" and the last file I see being loaded is Shield Prod. Facility 10GJ (objects\weapons\missiles\cyclone_ff.pbb)
That's the last entry I see before the crash.
Hope this helps.
Edited to add: through the entire process, the Viewer stated "Reading game object files: Un-Modded Game". That seems a bit strange.

If you click the 'show all' button in the 'Load Ships' dialog,
you should see both Colossi (Colossuses?) & both Yaki mobile stations.
Thanks for inputting though
Felt significantly rough today (I'm blaming garage bought cold meats), so no progress really.
Various changes have been made since the last version, but not yet
ready for a further release.

Hi,
First: This app looks really great!
However I'm having some problems viewing the models in a 3d view.
The only views I get are Top, Side and Front, but not this "3d Render Window", although it is activated in the option bar.
How do I get it?
And a little bug:
Everytime I open the Viewer it says that the game path is invalid and I have to reselect it.
This is how it looks: [ external image ]
Greets,

The 3D render should automatically be seen, sounds like DX3D is not functioning properly in your viewer.
What GPU / OS are you using, theoretically it shouldn't matter, but...
Someone else previously mentioned 'chinese looking' characters like this,
what's in your registry for the string entry 'XPath' under the node
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\X3Models3DFunfair ?
Possibly this might be a problem with unicode characters in that string.

key missing on my pc (vista sp1). I get the same issue. what strings do I add to the key (data obviously the x3tc path)?exogenesis wrote:Someone else previously mentioned 'chinese looking' characters like this,

Win10 Home 64-bit, Intel i7-9750H @ 2.6GHz. NVidia GeForce RTX 2070 (8 GB). 16 GB ram.
My System:What GPU / OS are you using
AMD Phenom X4 920
Radeon HD4870 1GB
4 GB RAM
Windows Vista 32-Bit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\X3Models3DFunfair
Node: XPath -> 䈞睅 (these are exactly the "chinese looking" characters)
What should I put there?
Greets,
ScRaT
EDIT:
I've got another issue:
Sometimes, random ships/stations cannot be loaded. An error message appears, which says something like "Invalid argument found" (maybe not the exact text - the text appears in german).

After installing the latest 9.2 catalyst drivers for my 4850 the system bluescreens when I exit the viewer. As the previous 8.11 drivers were fine I'm assuming it's an ATI problem.

The key should have been filled in after you first browsed to your X3 directory.
It should simply be a string value with the X3 path in it
e.g. mine is currently
XPath REG_SZ D:\Games\X3TerranConflict14
If you add it yourself, it's possible it might get (re)mangled by the same bug
that isn't getting it right in the first place, when you next run the viewer.
I don't think Vista32 is a problem, or anything else in your system list,
I'm at a bit of a loss as to why you don't get the 3D view.
That invalid argument appears to be related to certain 'Nebula' backgrounds,
if you change to a 'picked nebula' background (in Options on the main menu),
you could pick a favourite one for now, as long as it's before redsplit,
as per draffutt's post:
draffutts's post
The text appears in German presumably because you've got a German Windows installation (I assume?),
maybe the non-english install is connected to the registry key bug somehow.
NeverSnake, that's a bit worrying about the new drivers, the viewer is driving DX3D in quite a
primitive way, so I hope it doesn't imply a driver incompatibility with 'older' style rendering code.

Changing the Path to
C:\Spiele\X3 Terran Conflict (the game directory)
does not change anything.
However this is a minor Bug.
The invisible 3d render bothers me more.
I'm also using the newest Catalyst (9.2) drivers, but I don't get bluescreens.
Are you going/trying to fix this problem?

The Key (X3Models3DFunfair) was not there so I added it and added the string value (mine is XPath REG_SZ F:\Games\X3 Terran Conflict).exogenesis wrote:The key should have been filled in after you first browsed to your X3 directory.

No difference when running the program, still the same error, the chinese characters does not appear to contain a valid X game.
Looking back in the registry the key is still there with the data I entered, I would surmise it didn't read it (a access rights issue?).

could be, have had similar probs at work, might try setting the main keyianrobo75 wrote:...access rights issue?...
as accessible to all, this was the workaround that worked (at work).
But Vista should at least make a temporary main key entry (per user,
even for HKLM entries).
Difficult to know what to do, since I can't see it here.ianrobo75 wrote:...Are you going/trying to fix this problem?..
As a test, can you try reverting to 8.whatever drivers to see if that is OK?

Hmm, well I know ATI's installers tend to install incorrectly occasionally but even reinstalling the drivers didn't fix it.ScRaT_GER wrote:I'm also using the newest Catalyst (9.2) drivers, but I don't get bluescreens.
They just released the 9.3s yesterday so I'll try them.
EDIT: I uninstalled the 9.2s, ran driver sweeper and installed the 9.3s and it's working now. I don't know whether it was a bad install or a problem with that specific driver but at least it's now fixed.
