I'm just wondering if anyone has been successful at boarding the vidar?

I was successful the one time I tried it--that was back prior to 1.4, though.

I've never not succeeded at boarding the Vidar, but that was on 2.0 and 2.1, maybe they've changed it so you can't fail? (this is with the marines they give you, btw)

Hi,

using the given Marines I got an empty ship with 22% hull.

I'd consider this "Not really successful" :-( but in terms of the game: Yes.

Why bother bording the vidar when you get it with doing almost nothing. Just fly away from it and they give it to you.

To finish the Aldrin plot you need to move your hub gates. Is it permanent? Or can you move it when you complete the mission?

And I boarded the vidar too, had to get out and hit it with the repair laser, it was pretty close.

Once Aldrin is complete, you can put the hub gates back where they were.

Two questions about the Final Fury plot.

1. If I understand this correctly, by completing the Final Fury plot, there will no longer be any more Khack flying around. If this is true, what happens to their sectors? Do they just become empty sectors?

2. I read the walk-through and it states that you will have to do the 'escort' and 'clean sector 931' missions over and over until you reach a certain rank. How do I find out what rank I am in the Final Fury plot?

1. There are still khaak about, but no more battlefleets jumping in and destroying sectors. I cant say I looked at what happened to the core sectors afterwards.

2. Your final fury rank is listed with your other ranks. (once you start the ff plot). Its just the progression of them is somewhat bizzare. You have to be first liuetenant or higher to trigger the final missions. Unfortunately, the devs seem to thing 'commander' is a lower rank than first looy, so some of the ranks give you a false impression of how far you have advanced. Put it another way, there are the same number of ranks as all other rank lists, and the final missions trigger when your about the 3rd highest. That means you need a rank advance about 10 times to reach the final missions. (About, I havent checked the exact number).

I just jumped into the Kha'ahk core sectors and found nothing if it really matters.

There will be khaak in their sectors until you kill them all, and I think there are still some respawns while you are IS (or at least I get them) but I don't know if that is fight rank dependent.

Also, on the topic of Khaak does your FF rank only increase by completing missions, or will camping in a Khaak sector with my battle-fleet for a while alleviate the boredom of escorting?

FF rank only comes with the missions.

If you camp out in a khaak sector after the mission is complete, they keep respawning, but you no longer get paid for the kills, and you only get combat rank.

If you increase your combat rank too far, the remaining missions get a lot harder.

Ah, thank you. I really wish they had put a little more creative juice into Final Fury (to alleviate the boredom).

@Combat Rank: My motto, like the UAC from Doom (and arguably the US Marine Corps), is "Peace Through Superior Firepower" and I've never really had problems with the FF plot

Thanks Arpricotslice!

I checked my rank and now I am at 18% First Lieutenant.

I also think I found a 'non-bug' bug in one of the 'protect ship' missions.

I read somewhere that when people arrive at the east gate, one of the ships does not move from the gate. People say that they think its a fubar mission so they reload the game.

I had this happen last nite. I got the 'protect the four ships' mission. It was four Split ships. At the East Gate, three ships (one was a Mamba) took off for the other gate while another stayed at the East Gate. I thought 'Great! A lost mission.' Instead of reloading the game, I continued with the other three ships and left the other one behind. My hope was that the Khack would kill that ship.

So I fought our way down to the South Gate. Two ships went through the gate but the Mamba turned around and made a Bee-line back to the first ship that didnt move.

WTF?

So I flew back with him, taking out any bad guys I ran into since I STILL had to protect this one ship. As I got to the East Gate, the non-moving ship was now moving.

I ended up 'escorting' these two ships back down to the South Gate.

All four ships jumped through the gate and I got the 'mission completed' sign. However, I still had the mission guidance arrows telling me to go to M148. I went through the gate and found that I still had to protect the Mamba. So what the heck, how hard can that be?

HA!

Just then two Khack Clusters pop out!

Well, thats new.

I took one out and got 5k credit for it. The other one was taken out by the locals.

All in all, a strange mission but hopefully I am over that 'protect/attack' missions. I want this plot to be over with!!!!!!

No, you get the Unfocused Jumpdrive too, and the M6 you get is quite special in that it can mount any weapon in the game.

As far as I know, it's:
  • 400 x Computer Components
  • 500 x Microchips
  • 150,000 x Teladianium
  • 450,000 x Ore
  • 500 x Nividium
  • 250,000 x Crystals
  • 400,000 x Silicon Wafers
  • 75,000 x Microchips
Although I haven't actually checked in game. Also.

Thats correct for 2.1.

I'm actually finally doing it the vanilla way myself.
