SOLVED IT 8) Thanks for the pointer's guys

Vista shows Hex rather than a bit string.

I guessed correctly that fight and combat rank 3333 were specialist and financier (or whatever the rank is) and put in 0x0000000e instead and lo!

upon the restarting of X3:TC there were available:

Terran Defender
USC Commander
Argon Patriot
Humble Merchant
Tormented Teladi
Savage Split
Boring Boron
Pious Paranid

Which is pretty much what I thought I should have :).

Close enough for me anyway :).

can anyone please tell me why I only have these starts unlocked and what to do about it.
I'm on patch 1.4, on the top or 2nd ranks of every race apart from Goner, Mogul trade & crusader fight ranks. Iv'e completed the all the main plots, terran, final fury, Goner and i.m on the final 3rd set of gates in the Hub plot.
So why cant i see more starts?
Ok i still have to reach Battlemaster for Aldrin adventurer but the others should mostly be there but arn't

My available starts:
Terran defender
Argon Patriot
Humble Merchant
bankrupt assasin
Goner Witness
Teladi traficker.

My game is vanilla and not scripted. I don't want to mess with the registry. do I need to restart somthing?

What's your registry key (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\EGOSOFT\X3TC\GameStarts) set to?

Have you re-installed at all?

Hi carlo,
The GameStarts value is:
3470 Hex or 13424 decimal.

No I have not re-installed the game, I just patched up as the various patches came out. Now up to ver 1.4

Curious.

As far as the registry is concerned you have:
16 = Fight Rank 100,000 reached
32 = Trade Rank 100,000 reached
64 = Goner Plot Complete
1024 = Boron Rank 10,000
4096 = Paranid Rank 10,000
8192 = Teladi Rank 10,000

but not:
2 = Terran plot completed
4 = Fight Rank 3,333 reached
8 = Trade Rank 3,333 reached
512 = Argon Rank 10,000
2048 = Split Rank 10,000
16384 = Argon Rank 333

Fight & Trade rank 3333 you should obviously have - something odd with the way it's updating, maybe. Or our interpretation is wrong :p.

If you want to add just the fight/trade ranks you can set the registry key to 347C (hex), for the others as well it's 7E7E (which should enable everything except Poisoned Paranid).

Hi Carlo,
Thanks the hex codes you provided both work as you said.

347C unlocks the extra starts
Tormrnted Teladi
Savage Split
Boring Boron
Pious Peranid

7e7e unlocks further:
USC Commander
Aldran Adventurer
Unholy Trator

I will continue to finish the hub & get battle commander rank then switch to 7e7e as I want to actually qualify for the starts.
Bugger that I seem to have some sort of bug or file corruption that makes me have to alter the reg but well at least now I can try the other starts ive earned.
Thanks for the help & advice.

Did you have to reinstall or anything? I found that after a rather dramatic rebuild was required my saved games (which survived, thankfully) didn't enable all the starts I'd had before. Best guess the hex keys are only modified as you hit the rank/do the mission, rather than from a scan of any of the save files or anything.

Are you guys sure about the USC commander start? I have the required combat rank, and finished the terran plot, and additionally my terran ranking is 'warrior of Io', but I don't see a USC commander in the new game screen. I looked in my registry, and found the following hexidecimal value for gamestarts:

4202

Do I miss something?

EDIT
Reading the opening post it seems I should also qualify for 'Savage Split' and 'Pious Paranid' but alas, neither of them show up. I'm stuck with the starting options.

Also note that I have not reinstalled the game, or patched it or anything. Just bough my copy over Steam two weeks ago and started playing v1.4 from the start.

I've got:

Terran Defender (finished)
Argon Patriot
Humble Merchant
Bankrupt Assassin
Anonymous Argon
(Custom Game)

All of which, I'm pretty sure, were there from the first time I started the game.

EDIT
So I worked out the decimal system thanks to the previous posts, seems my fight rank 3,333 hasn't registered yet. This makes me wonder: if it says 'Specialist XX%' in pilot stats, does that mean you have rank specialist and XX percent towards the next step, or XX percent towards the specialist rank? I assumed the former, but I guess it may be the latter. Going to take a couple of combat missions to find out. I'm sorry for any eyerolling I may have caused.
