[X2] Sector Trader not gaining levels
Ive been playing a while now, and successfully set up a few sector traders that eventually matured into Universe Traders, but atm Im stuck with one that refuses to go past level two no matter how many trade runs he performs. To date he would have made approximately 200K credits, but just wont level. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Ive tried that a few times. Now hes made about 400K, and just to see if it would work, I gave him the command to start universe trading. I got the usual error message, but it says "trade runs performed: 0 credits earned: 0"
Quite annoying, and seeing as hes a Teladi, I dont see why he wouldnt like to make money

Hiya JCTiger,
Hmm......... Interesting.......
Just Outta Curiosity, What Ship Are You Using For You ST? IE: Mercury, Dolphin, Caiman, Demeter, Vulture, Pirate Ship......
{I Was Using Capped Pirate Ships For 99% Of My UT's In
& Various Other TS's For My ST's & Whenever A ST Leveled Up To UT Lvl, I'd Transfer Him Over To A Pirate Ship If Any Were Spare..........
}
Also, Which Sector Are You Setting Him Up In?
{I Used "The Wall" For Quite A While When I Was Playing
...... (Only 'Cause I'd Plonked A Teladianium Foundry & A Cloth Rimes Factory, With Supporting Wheat Farm There As Well......
) I Suggest You Try "The Wall" , 'Cause There's Lots Of SPP's There & It's Fairly Well Protected As Well}
Cheers & Thranx

Keep working her* through the Split sectors to Family Pride.
The sectors you have tried so far are not the best.
Cho's Defeat, Tharks Sun (nasty khaak spot that one) and Rhonkars Clouds are not that good for sector trading. I would be tempted to just skip all those sectors and move it to Family Pride.
Don't even bother with Patriacks Keep (no solar power plants in there).
*I read somewhere that all Teladi are female; Farnhams Legend from memory.

JCTiger has several times in this thread mentioned that this trader has earned a lot of money but still does not advance.
And yet everyone suggests how he can make more money...
To JCTiger:
Does his ship have the same equipment as your other traders? I have not used sector traders much in X2, but in X3 there are some dependencies on equipment, both documented and undocumented. For example I think I have seen somewhere that video enhancements googles will prevent a universe trader from using the jumpdrive. I was also a little frustrated when my sector traders reached level 10 and still would not do universe trading - which turned out to be caused by the lack of a 25 MJ shield.

Sometimes a pilot/ship combo just gets stuck. This was especially true in X2 when the ST/UT software was new. I had it happen a couple of times myself. Try transferring the pilot to another ship. Then start the old ship with a new pilot. If you're lucky, you'll end up with two good traders.
Alternatively, since he's still only level 2, you could just dismiss him by getting in the ship yourself, then getting out and restarting the trade software. A new pilot may solve the problem.

Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

Exactly, thank you. As yet, he only has one 25MJ shield, the others are 2x5MJ shields. I read about the video enhancement goggles bug so i made sure not to buy them. Pretty much all he has is trading software mark 3, max engines, an upgradded cargo bay, special software, fight command software mark 1 and 2 and a triplex scanner. This is very similiar in set up to my other UTs, so I dont know whats going down. Ill try putting him in another ship, and see if that works.Gnavpot wrote:JCTiger has several times in this thread mentioned that this trader has earned a lot of money but still does not advance.

Ok, tried upgrading the shields; no difference. Also tried getting rid of that pilot by transferring myself ino the ship. His name still stayed there even though i flew it around. Im getting quite angry with this particular pilot. Perhaps ill just use him for a SPP loop or something and transfer the MK3 software to a new ship

Getting in the ship only erased the pilot in the early versions of X2. Later ones remember again when you leave (like in X3).
If all of your other MkIII traders are leveling up, then that one might be glitched. But they sometimes would get fixed up after a while.
If you have no others or they are also not leveling up, then you might not be properly patched. Note that the last two patches to the MkIII traders were in the X2 Bonus script pack, not the patch files.
