X3 is probably the most deeply interesting game I've ever gotten into, and all i could wish for to make it better at this point would be for it to be available as an on-line, multiplayer, persistant universe. If the depth could be retained it would be one hell of a universe!
I truly hope that something like that is on the minds of those at Egosoft because it would attract the most skilled and intelligent gamers there are I believe. If I come across one more Matrix-like mmorg I'll get sick all over this nice new wide screen i just bought!

Yes, after passing the shock of your blue color fonts i can say that yes: X3 is really amazing and Egosoft are planing an online game that will be called X Online Universe but its only in planing stages right now beacuse egosoft did not recive the funding to power up this project so we still have to wait

On-line..bah. Required internet connection..bah. Never ending monthly fees..bah.

Still, multiplayer would likely beat the idiot AI that for sure. :D

I agree with pccenter, and yes this game is brilliant, finally got my first M1 on it after 20 days of hard graft with stations and suicidal UTs. Ah, the memories :P

Certainly a game where you can do dodgy dealings with real people pirates, smuggling, buying high-tech anti-scanner equipment for your operations. A Smart AI based police force, and also a smart Player police force would be awesome.

It would certainly be a great game, hopefully the next few singleplayer releases support LAN and single server based universes which can be saved, max players of course so it doesn't turn into an MMORPG behind their backs :) I'll just keep dreaming... best to leave me alone :P

Online multiplayer for X? Mmm... For building games like this the last thing you want is some 12 years old kid to jump in yelling "IN YAR FACE!!!" and blow up the complex that took you a week worth of spare time to build, then promptly logs off.

Problem with X games online. Normal online games last at most 2 hours. But X games have playing times of months. So you're bound to be AFK for hours on end. Which opens opportunities for attack on you freighters, becasue you can't really protect all of your freighters with something that will stop someone in even an M6.

More comments on "Intense"! ( and no blue fonts! )

Granted I'm very early in the game and have died a number of times already, still i can see how an on-line mp version could be made. There would need to be changes of course, and I think users would have to join up with a particular race right away based on balancing the load so that equality survives, but it certainly could be accomplished. There would also need to be very strict rules of engagement and memberships so that others couldn't simply fly about wreaking havoc on everyone else! As to memberships and responsibilities, yes there would have to be a way of keeping the jerks off-line, perhaps time-share servers in which individual games could be setup and run over the months required or wanted where the number of users is tightly controlled. There ARE ways of solving all these problems.

One I thought is that in core sectors you'd have a weapons lock, doesn't have to be on all ships... for example freighters and fighters. But for larger things like Corvettes then a weapons lock would be needed in order to stop destruction.

Perhaps if we have international sectors, not owned by one race in particular, a sort of free trading area, but at the same time considerably dangerous. These could be owned by factions like say FACTs or Split/Paranid Alliance which could then impose a weapons lock if the sectors are going crazy. This lock would also happen to their own ships, otherwise it'd give them an unfair advantage. It would also cost alot of either resources, or cash to impose this weapons lock, so as to not keep it on all the time.

Just ideas, there of course will be ways to abuse these tools, it's just balancing them to make sure the abuse can't be done to affect too much.

There's lots of things that could be done, unfortunatly there's always going to be idiots who cheat their way somehow, either exploitation, or the like.
