Hi apricotslice,

Nice one, lots of info in one place.

I agree with your decision on spellchecking, it would have taken the character out of the entries (and gives an excuse for your erors).

I suppose you will update it every day, as new information comes to light, or new mods/scripts are released (grin)....

Keep up the god work (intentional)

Have fun, and help the rest of us to enjoy X3,

Your right, it is. One of the disadvantages of pdf, it seems to dynamically resize itself at times. I didnt notice it did it this time. Noted for fix.

Figured I'd download this seeing as I've finally, after owning the game for about 2 months or so, started playing X3 (been far too addicted to X2 :) ).

I have only skimmed it seeing as I want to try to discover as much as possible myself. A lot of reading here but I figure it will come in really useful at various points.

What I have read so far has been useful. So thank you, apricotslice, for the work that you've put into this and also to all the contributors who took the time to give the rest of us the benefit of their knowledge. I, for one, very much appreciate it :)

Thanks guys (and gals, if any)

Jon

Nice Handbook. Well written.

Could I be so bold as to make a couple of suggestions?

Firstly that while you are editing up the next edition that you'd consider making the font size quite a bit larger, even if it adds several pages to the doc. It'd be much more eye-friendly and easier to read.

Secondly, could you post a seperate link for the map please? It's be useful as a standalone document, maybe one page landscape A4 size in PDF to zoom into particular areas of detail.

Excellent handbook though. :)

Thankyou !

The link to the maps home thread is at the beginning of the description for it, in the handbook.

Everything (just about) in there has a thread here, and the link is printed under the title.

The font was mostly what was used here, its just that the map and the larger pics all made the font look smaller, in order to get them in. Even then, the map lost a bit somehow in the final version and I didnt notice at the time.

Play around with reader, it has the ability to change the viewing zoom to some degree.

Heya, thanks much for the guide, really saved me in the begining as i nearly destroyed my pc in frustration

I have a small sujestion; how about a list of ship specs, it would save hours (slight exageration :P) of hunting through ship yards comparing everything.
hopefully its a worth while idea ^_^

I havent seen one in a usable format.

Nor have I been inclined to compile one myself. If someone does, let me know.

The easiest way to check specs is to use the X3 editor and look at the files themselves. Compiling a list just takes a lot of methodical data extraction, and a lot of time, given how many ships there are.

Another addition that would be most helpful, is a keyboard map diagram for both the default and alternative profiles.

I have to admit, it never occured to me that anyone would actually want to print it out. 108 pages is a fair chunk of a deciduous forrest in paper !

My suggestion would be to enlarge the font using the adobe zoom, but select the sections of text you want to print so you avoid printing the pics. I havent tried this, so I dont know how effective it would be.

The other suggestion, is to use the links for each document to visit the original forum document and to print that instead for the major ones you wish to print.

As a matter of interest, how much bigger does the font need to be for you to print it without problem ?

My primary concern when compiling the handbook was keeping the number of pages to a minimum to ensure the download size didnt blow out to something too big for bandwidth issues. And the ability to resize the text in the reader was justification for doing it the way I did. But as I said, I didnt consider people wanting to print the whole thing.

It would be tedious, but not impossible, to do a version with a larger font, but ulimately, the size of the zip would determine if its justifiable to allow download.

The existing zip file is already problems for some people, going from the stats I now get, where only partial transfers occur, so making it bigger is an issue.

Also off the HQ Site, there is now a webpage version that just includes the links to all the original forum threads, making finding them easier for locating updates and descussion.
