Scavenger: How do I make a ship scavenge and keep doing that?

Post by Mr.Killer » Tue, 29. Nov 22, 20:12

The topic says all: How do I make a ship a scavenger, with jumpdrive, auto e-cell refill option (if needed) that goes out to pick up all 'lost' items and then when it is full return to a selected station or HQ and dump all picked up items there and then go with empty belly scavenging....

There is no option that I can find for this, but it would be nice, as I see a lot other factions have their ships named scavenger, and I do not think the AI of the game is a that funny guy th rename them in that way.
That would be silly?

It might work to buy a dock, install the Manager, set managed ships to 'scavenge' in Manager Restrictions, then add any wares you want to scavenge to the dock's ware list in the command console. I think the floating wares have to be visible though (found by satellite or passing ship). It should work well with Piracy Command Software, but I've never tried.

There is a setting that I might have overlooked, it is not that there are a few of them :D
Oddly enough, I find myself in battle with other ships, and when they lose items, more often a number of my ships jump in, scavenge the items and jump out.
I think I'm gonna have to take a closer look at stationmanager's restrictions settings on that. I find it weird that the option disappears from the list, and same goes for money transfer. Weird programming....
Also commands given to ships can be seen (like building MK3 actions) and not being able to finetune it. Disability in programming I think.

I noticed that there is a difference in here, but it is called SALVAGE, and not SCAVENGE.... These are two different terms. Maybe from German point of view at that time, it is the same, but when it comes to looking for an answer, not finding anything, it is hard to keep track of it.

So, we can order ships to go out to salvage items, that is like rescueing them and not picking the carcas clean, because that is what scavenge is, and there is no carcas to pick clean.

Lets not nit pick this any further :D , I think it is meant to be like that, either by accident or unwillingly, as I recall, this is the effort of a lot of people who wanted to do the story right, and I concur!

Hope some of our 'findings' are going to be dealt with in hopefully next update... I hope....

This game engine is very old. X3 Reunion appeared more than 17 years ago and some legacy are still there, I believe, even from the past century. This game times have passed away and now in X3FL we have not an 'official Egosoft game' but an 'official fan mod' that was created by a small group of people. And the X3 Universe is so big and complex, so this is quite acceptable when something is overlooked or isn't tuned well. In fact, we have the last chance to enjoy this great game and it's never going to happen again. Personally, I accept all these small bugs the game has and looking for a way how to use the current peculiarities and get some profit from that.

 For example, do you know that you can get Jump Beacons for free? Or that you can multiply Engine Tuning and Rudder Optimizations upgrades for the same ship class and get a fleet of overtuned ships? Some bugs are funny and useful and it's pity when they got fixed.

Why not? Here you can find how to get Jump Beacons and here is the discussion about that upgrades duplicate.

I don't want to open a new thread, but my question should be right here:

How does the "piracy software" work, what does it?

I only tried once in an old version of FL. I think it works with M6 class ships and causes them to seek and destroy freighters. I didn't notice them collecting goods so maybe you need a freighter set to keep collecting wares in the same sector. I'll have to give it a try and learn more about it. A group of escorts is probably a good idea also as armored freighters with MK2 drones can be tough.

I was under the impression that the piracy software was what you needed to have installed when you wanted to order a ship to launch boarding pods?

Thanks for the insight, but for me that is far to difficult to realize. I still struggle with some of the settings in the game that makes me overflow in mistakes. I was hoping for a far more simpeler option, like find a blueprint somewhere, or gain it through contacting someone, or with discoverypoints or let diplomacy work it out? No, it is not simple, I understand, but then I think it is not for me. (getting jumpbeacons that is)

For the first attempt it takes some time but it's possible (if you have official version 1.3, not the unofficial patch). Here I provided some details about the procedure. It is worth to spend some time for that because JBs are very useful. It's a part of daily routine gameplay once you get them. :)

As long as you have the storyline enabled you'll get the best M4 for the job, the scorpion. Equip it with Mass Drivers and Pulsed Beam Emitters and you're halfway there

Getting jump beacons from boarding while Out Of System seems to work very well. This is because missiles hit almost instantly Out-of-System and can't be intercepted. You can usually get marines onboard before the Rapid Response ship jumps away, or send reinforcements instantly for Xenon boarding.

OOS Missile volleys don't seem to be instantaneous in FL anymore. I've used volleys on Xenon large caps and the damage seems to be incremental until either the ship is destroyed or all the missiles have hit.
