[Feedback] 6.0 beta 7 Issues with fleets attacking stations

Something needs to be done in this area. As it stands, fleets attacking stations is just horrendous. I am talking about when in sector of course. This ties into all of the different aspects of fleets. Fighters set to intercept will just fly around the station trying to attack drones and then crash into the station or sometimes just sit there because they don't have a target anymore but they also don't fly away from the station so they just die. Bombers go way too close to the station and also crash into the station or just flail about mostly useless. Frigates also crash into the stations, and are huge targets but relatively weak so die easily.

Of course, the worst is the capital ships. They bunch up really close together, sometimes even shooting each other or crashing into each other or trying to slowly maneuver around each other. They have a lot of difficulty maneuvering around the station when they destroy modules and can't reach modules on the other side. Or sometimes they carelessly fly right into heavy fire from the station and die pathetically.

What can be done? Well, let us break it down.

Subordinate fighters should be more careful, stick closer to their lead ship no matter what setting or at least be on the constant move. Fighters should never just be sitting there waiting to be destroyed because they have no target. Chase enemy, no enemy go right back to the lead ship and stay close, keep moving even if just in a radius circling the lead ship.

Bombers need to attack at greater ranges, even if not the max, it needs to be much greater than it is now. Bombers should approach, fire and then quickly get far away and then approach again, etc. If no target, they should return to their lead ship and stay around them, again they should move and not stay still.

Frigates need to have some kind of different style of movement and not act like fighters. They are too large to maneuver like fighters do so they should have their own unique way of flying and attacking. Maybe they should keep at a decent distance from the target while circling around targets rather than constantly on approach towards the station/ship they are targeting like fighters do. Use their thrusters move to circle around targets, and then boost away when they take heavy fire.

Capital ships need to make more use of the space. They should stop bunching up together and spread out up, down, sideways, etc. They should keep a good distance from targets and surround a target for bombardment, etc. They could also occasionally circle around the target, not fly over or under it but circle it at a certain radius to avoid as much turret fire as possible. It doesn't have to be perfect but it needs to be more reasonable.

Right now, it just seems like ships are all driven by extremely drunk idiots.

Every valid, well-evidenced and replicable beta issue report is seen and considered important by the devs. They prioritise the reports by their significance and ease of being addressed, and for meeting the relevant devs own gameplay intentions, availabilities and capacities. That is why upvotes, 'me too' and +1 are all quite irrelevant.

To add to the original post, I find that once AI battleships don't have LOS on a an undestroyed part of the station they just sit there, and don't engage at all.

So they attack the station until all the bits they can 'see' are destroyed.. and that's it. The only way to solve it seems to be to force them to come in from another angle, or (like I did) go OOS so they can finish off the rest of the station.

Aside from all the iffy AI of fighters suiciding into stations, the non-engagement of capitals seems very much unintended.
