One of the two fleet commanders in the escort carrier missions tells you. It's because the boron incorporated argon design into their ships, when argon and boron joined to prepare for the shutdown.

Re: Hint for those who are having trouble with Blazing the Trail
Well, I went back and redeployed the beacons and the yellow circles did disappear. Still the mission did not end. This is one of those head scratchers.jojorne wrote: ↑Thu, 13. Apr 23, 05:24Hint for those who are having trouble:
If you deploy a nav beacon and it has a yellow circle, it means you placed it too far away.
You need to deactivate it, retrieve it and place it closer to the one placed earlier. The path to follow is...ShowThe bottom path. Just follow the red trail on the map.
[EDIT] The mission briefing lists this mission as Easy! I think I'm going to have to start over.
If you want to go fast, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.

Same, all of the placement circles are gone, tons of nav beacons still not completed.surferx wrote: ↑Fri, 14. Re: Hint for those who are having trouble with Blazing the Trail
So I reloaded an earlier save and set the nav beacons about 40K apart all the way back to the gate to Great Reef, every time I set a beacon the circle disappeared on the previous beacon. When I was done the mission said completed.oddgit wrote: ↑Fri, 14. Apr 23, 02:49Same, all of the placement circles are gone, tons of nav beacons still not completed.surferx wrote: ↑Fri, 14. Re: "Blazing Trail", Boron main plotline mission, can't complete
I found that I had to pickup and redeploy some the nav beacons even in the same exact place since the triggers didn't seem to work on recognizing the ones I put before the system was ready.
So while I got that done, I did get abducted by the Wayfarer and it's course just went up from halfway through the path so I can't get back to safe territory now.

Re: "Blazing Trail", Boron main plotline mission, can't complete
I liked the mission. It is nostalgic of nebula fighting in FS2. One thing though, during the nav plotting session, don't drop a sat beacon. it messes up the markers and you get helluva confusion afterwards because it stopped indicating.
Re: "Blazing Trail", Boron main plotline mission, can't complete
This mission still bugs out regularly.
For example, I placed a sequence of Beacons and, after each placement, that beacon got the yellow circles around it, suggesting it'd been "accepted" as a valid placement. So, three Beacons placed, three lots of yellow circles, all good.
I place a forth beacon - within the yellow circle of the last one (I didn't know this was needed at the time, but I'd done it anyway) - and that one (4th) didn't gain a yellow circle plus the 3rd one LOST its circle and the 4th was placed. This is a bit odd.
I'm currently picking up Beacons and placing them down again - ensuring they're all in range of each other - to see if it will complete.
Note: the route is valid (safe) I've not taken ANY damage while doing it, yet game is X2 sagt Bussi auf Bauch about placement AND changes it's mind about previously placed and previously VALID Beacons.
It's a little frustrating to be honest.
Additionally, as I commented elsewhere, it's impossible to remotely order a ship to do the placement for you - I did this first - as it IGNORES any waypoints the player has set, and flies way above the ecliptic, deliberate into danger and blows up. Silly.
Note: It did eventually work for me, but I had to pick and and place down again certain beacons before they were "registered" so to speak. Each beacon was less than 60km away from the last, so within the range of the yellow circles. Interestingly, when I placed the last beacon - the one that would complete the sequence - it didn't initially register and several of the other Beacons lost their yellow circles for a moment. I sat there, somewhat depressed as it appeared to have broken again when, suddenly the mission completed.
I love the idea of this mission but the implementation is a little buggy. While I assumed the Beacons should sorta be in range of each other, it's not part of the briefing. Tasks like this need to be clear, though, even if it was, it still broke a number of times when everything was correct, but the game thought something was off.

Re: "Blazing Trail", Boron main plotline mission, can't complete
To be honest - I made that mission fairly early before the reports came in about it being "difficult". I just flew along the red path to the north and dropped nav beacons every 10km or so. Upon reaching the gate, some of them changed ownership and some remained in my posession (I blew those abundant ones up to test that new function). I only read later that there is some mumbo-jumbo going on with the yellow circles. Guess I was lucky

Is there any way to bypass this mission?
I'm having a really hard time and this is frustrating to the point I'm not having any fun playing X4.
I've been playing X since X-BTF and this is the first time I'm really not having fun. .

Re: "Blazing Trail", Boron main plotline mission, can't complete
What yellow circles? I never saw any. I just deploy beacons one after another all the way. Did it on the way to the gate and away from it. Never saw no circles but the beacons always worked out. Sometime I have a couple beacons not change control. Just spam them along the correct path.
Re: "Blazing Trail", Boron main plotline mission, can't complete
Worst part about this type of mission is the insane load times every time you mess up. I wouldn't think at start it would still take 4 minutes to load a game but... I think I watched half of A New Hope and all of Empire Strikes back trying to figure out that all I should do is hit the forums for every insanely obscure thing in X4. Anyone make a mod that helps with stupidly tedious missions yet?
