[5.10 HF3] Bug: Cockpit Camera out of position - Resolved by disabling headtracking.
5.10HF3 (Steam) Unmodded
Language: German
Gamestart: any
DLC: all (Steam-Sale-Bundle)
I just purchased X4: Fundations as Steam-Sale-Bundle and tried it out. I realized that there is something wrong with the camera within cockpit. For me it looks like the camera collides with the pilot model and therefore cannot reach it's base position.
As a result I cannot see all parts of the HUD.
If I switch to outside view using F2, the camera seems fine. But in the outside view I have only a limited HUD.
Beside this camera-position issue the graphic looks fine. So I am wondering if this might be a graphic bug or something else.
I tried out the explorer and the warrior game start, which seems to start with different ships, But it's the same. So I guess it's not connected to the ship.
I also tried out to start the game with 5.00 Version, but also here it's the same.
Is there a way to remove the pilot model, so I can check if it solves the issue?
Or can I somehow enable the full HUD for the outside view (F2). I wouldn't mind to control my ship in outside view only. But with the limited HUD I miss some important information like actual speed or actual selected weapons.
Greetings

It sounds like your game installation simply isn't quite right. Use the Steam file verification to clean up any errors.

Thank you for the fast response.
Unfortunately it didn't help.
I successful went through the Steam file verification without any error. But the issue still persists.

Obviously other people aren't experiencing this, or we'd know about it. Did you install any mods when you installed the game?

Yes, I was checking this and the steam forum first about similar experiences, before I did start this thread.Obviously other people aren't experiencing this, or we'd know about it.
No. I purchased the Bundle and directly installed it to try it out. I didn't install any mods or changed anything.Did you install any mods when you installed the game?
I just did let Steam move the game to a different hard drive (from D: to C:) to make sure my hard drive isn't broken. But the issue still persists.
With my next tryout I will deinstall the game and install it again, but only the basic game without DLCs.
If you have any other ideas, what I could try out to localize the origin, just let me know.

Could you provide a screenshot or video showing what you're seeing?

Re: [5.10 HF3] Bug: Cockpit Camera out of position
The DLCs will not make any difference to that aspect of gameplay.
It might be worth saying what settings you are using, eg resolution, full-screen/windowed, etc. The easiest way to do that would be to post the text of your config.xml file which is usually found in here: Drive:\Users\Your Name\Documents\Egosoft\X4\Steam ID No\... Also mention your in-game scaling and if you are doing anything unusual in terms of graphics processing and your monitor display, such as multiscreen, widescreen, etc.
Is it the player character that gets in the way, or that of the NPC reserve pilot/captain?

Re: [5.10 HF3] Bug: Cockpit Camera out of position
I use a laptop with a resolution of 1920x1080 for this game. No additional monitor or widescreen mode.
I tried out full screen and borderless window mode, but it didn't change anything.
I don't know what exactly is in the way, but the camera is unstable and seems to glide around its base position without being able to reach it.
The re-download and re-installtion didn't help.
I will send you the content of my config file and some screenshots.
I will also try to provide a gif-video but it will be maybe to big to upload it somewhere.

Re: [5.10 HF3] Bug: Cockpit Camera out of position
Please set aside this idea that there is something "in the way" of the camera. The camera doesn't have physics to get stuck behind things.
The individual screenshots you've sent don't look wrong on their own, so I have to assume that there is some kind of movement going on which is giving you the impression that something is awry. My first guess would be that there is some spurious input that is triggering the game's "look around" key bindings. Please disconnect all input devices, and possibly other USB-connected devices too, and plug them back in one-by one to see whether one of those is causing it.

Re: [5.10 HF3] Bug: Cockpit Camera out of position
Okeeee.
Thanks for the idea.
I think I found the "issue", which actually is a feature to my surprise.
Actually it was the Headtracking. (To be honest this is my first game which has this feature. I didn't know that such feature exists, till now)
Since I am using a laptop it seems this feature was enabled automatically on installation since the game recognized the built-in camera. Unfortunately it seem like my head was to close to the camera, which lead to misinterpretation of the system. Cause of this I didn't recognize, that it was my own head, which caused the strange camera movements.
I disabled this feature for now and everything seems to work fine.
Thank you for your time and sorry that I thought it might be a bug.

Glad to hear you've got it sorted out. If nothing else, it was certainly an interesting result!
