[3.20] BUG - Shields remain after destroying generators

Post by SunSnake » Wed, 10. Jun 20, 19:48

If destroy shields generators without downing shields to 0(for example using Thermal desintegrator), shields not disappear. It just have no regen.
And even more: if destroy turret and its generator without downing shields, then, when turrets will be repaired, it wil be have shields.

P.S. Sorry for my English.

That is how it works, it only stops shield regen.

No it's not supposed to have shield when the engine generating the shield is destroyed.

There is no magical shield from nowhere :x

I agree it is boring ><

Please tell the devs and explain to us all, quoting laws of physics and dissipation theories, how a field would lose its energy instantly? I would love to hear this.

btw... magic doesn't cut it.

Yes, it is. As previously explained by others, this is how the game works. Fictional explanations notwithstanding, it would be far too easy to destroy large ships if blowing up a small shield generator took the shields down immediately.

It's like a simple magnetic field generated by electricity.
When you cut the power, the field disappears instantly.
The module is nammed "generator" after all.

If it's a desired design ok, but I don't find it very logical.
It's already very easy to destroy big ships because the global shield does not protect modules.

Here's a bit of counter-logic, when you first fit a shield generator or when the shield has been depleted by fire, the full shielding does not magically appear all at once but charges up slowly. So then why should it all instantly disappear if the generator is lost? There is obviously a latency or hysteresis affect to the field strength, although I would expect it to gradually decay with time.

I agree with the charge effect but not with the discharge effect ^^ The generator is sustaining the charge effect, if it is completely destroyed, it doesn't "sustain" a discharge effect :p

But nevermind if it's a feature, it's a feature ^^ Like sound in space etc =)
