Mimic Commander and Pilot Skills

I need some detailed information regarding mimicing fleets (e.g. trade or mining fleets).
  • What fleet commander skill determins the gate/sector distance for the subordinates?
  • Does the gate/sector distance get updated if the commander moves to another sector?
  • What exactly happends to the gate/sector distance (for subordinates) if the commander is set to do advanced automine and moves to another sector?
  • Is the subordinate skill important?
    (e.g. if the commander has 3 pilot skills and can do advanced auto mining/trading, but the subordinate has only 1 star)
  • When assigning a civilian ship to a station, the station's manager determines the gate/sector distance. Does this carry over to suborindates of a commander that is assigned to a station?
Actually, an in-depth guide to mimic commander would be awesome.
