Faraway Stations
I've been noticing a few stations appearing faraway from the center of systems, normal factory type stations, really does make things like Patrol not fit for purpose.
Is this a bug or intended?
Either way a new command that's between Patrol and Defend Position would be nice. Or make these commands more configurable with an adjustable area of coverage.
Laying a few Defend Positions on repeat is garbage and doesn't work well in practice, due to ships being more eager to move onto the next zone than actually defending anything.

Re: Faraway Stations
I'm use attack targets in range with repeat orders to create patrol routes.

Back to faraway stations.
Is this intended?

There's lots of room nearer the shipping lanes, I don't think that would've been the last plot available.
Gave me abit of a "wtf moment" when I got the message that one of my traders was being attacked by "Khaak Installation". Looked like the Teladi station had just been built as the builder was still there.
I don't even have trade rights with the Teladi, so my trader shouldn't have known the station was there.

Re: Faraway Stations
Yes, the video looks normal to me.
- Select a ship;
- Click on a gate that leads to that sector;
- Tell a ship to explore the gate;
- Select the ship again;
- Open the ship Behaviour tab;
- Expand the Explore command;
- Set the range to 350.
If the Kha'ak station is just outside the circle of the explore command by about 50-150km than it's normal.
Re: Faraway Stations
If you explore the fog enough to cover 500km diameter and have a Patrol
fleet in the sector, they will attack the Kha'ak station when they find it.
They will probably just commit suicide trying to attack it tho... >.<'

Re: Faraway Stations
This thread isn't about the Khaak station or exploring sectors, it's about the Teladi station right next to it.
This thread is about stations being built far-out of the sector for no good reason.

And why do you want to put everything right in front of the stupid gate?Grouch Potato wrote: ↑Tue, 30. May 23, 02:53This thread isn't about the Khaak station or exploring sectors, it's about the Teladi station right next to it.

What will you do if a Xenon I with 3 Ks appears and start to attack them?
If you want to protect your stations put it far-far away from the gates.

Please tell me where I said I want everything put right in front of the gate.
What I want is consistency and coherence.
If my trader could find the Teladi station, then I'm sure the Xenon will too.
But not right next door to a Khaak Installation

Re: Faraway Stations
Kha'ak Installations are usually that far out.
It's also not uncommon to find stations of the main faction far out. They seem to be a little bit more common in later releases, 5.0 or 6.0. I think it adds to the exploration aspect and makes space feel vast.
The TEL factory right next to a Kha'ak Installation is probably a bug or a rare coincidence.

Re: Faraway Stations
With stations that far away horizontally, it is at least possible to see that there is something in that direction by watching where ships coming out of jump gates go. It's worse when there is, for example, a station 150km straight up. Why would the AI want to put a station all the way up there where their traders have to waste a lot of time travelling to it?
