Right now all weapons are energy based, but I miss ye olde days when you also had a kinetic option. Adds more variance and logistic concerns.
At least something to consider for X5.
So every weapon would have an internal magazine (weapon stat) and every weapon slot on a ship/fighter would have it's own weapon storage stat.
Once the internal magazine is depelted, the weapon would re-load from the weapon slot storage. The exception is gattling/belt-fed weapons that don't have a reload or internal magazine - they draw directly from the weapon slot magazine.
Example:
Normal autocannon has a 100 round magazine and the weapon slot can hold 500. Once the 100 is spent, gun reloads (slow, like a heat cooldown) to full from the weapon slot storage.
Normal gattling has however many bullets there are in the weapon slot. No reloads. You can fire for as long as you have ammo (or until the gun overheats). But you normally wouldn't, gattling guns are fired in bursts to conserve ammo.
You'd need ammo production factories for this and a single ammo box might hold a 1000 - 10000 rounds.
