Hello! As 6.0 beta is out and the game is obviously getting some major graphical updates ide like to raise something that i've always found a bit weird - perhaps im wrong, but the brown/orange tint at the terminator on almost every planet seems weird to me. Is this something that is actually realistic? I dont think i've ever seen it in this way on any photos or videos ive seen of earth. Ive seen videos from ISS where you can clearly see orange light on clouds etc, but the effect is not so extreme as it looks sometimes on x4 planets.
I wanted to raise the question, I dont think it looks very nice (especially as it tends to look brown) and ive always found it a bit distracting, but if it should look like that realistically it would help me accept it.
For an example the effect can be clearly seen in the recent XLOG at 3:11 and 7:00 https://youtu.be/mbfez5ljdE4?t=191
Edit: After writing this post I had a harder look for real videos - heres a great one from ISS, in it you can see there is a shift in the light but it isnt so extreme as we see in x4 and things like clouds tend to pick up the light much more than the surface, perhaps it could/should be toned down a bit? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9Itb80IAVc

It's probably not perfectly realistic to how you'd see it, but then to you it probably would look more vibrant than to the camera on the ISS also.

Re: Orange/Brown on terminator of planets
I would imagine that factors like sun type and planet size could also alter the colouration a tad. Then there is also colour reproduction on the player's side, with how accurately their display can recreate the intended colours.
ISS video footage is also not necessarily an accurate reference material due to the limited dynamic range of a normal image file of video stream.

Re: Orange/Brown on terminator of planets
I suspect the main reason it looks different is that the in-game version seems to change the colour uniformly, as if seen through a yellow filter, while the real thing as you can see in the NASA video is a very 3D space where you're still seeing blue light at the upper part of the atmosphere at the same time as yellow light deeper inside the atmosphere on clouds and land. So it's a lot more complex and subtle than the game's "just yellow after this point" approach.
But, it's probably not worth having the game try to simulate that kind of complexity.

Another issue exaggerating the effect in games or renders is they often don't simulate backscatter/light reflected by the surface and the atmosphere itself. Since the Earth's surface isn't a mirror a lot of light is reflected back diffusely, which produces the residual blue glow during and after sunset and somewhat balances out the reds and yellows.
