Months since the last update; anyone know what's next in the pipeline?

Sounds more like they have not yet decided on what to actually do in the first place. Whether to update, DLC, new game or abandonment.

How did you come to that conclusion? They have not announced anything specific, just that there will be news at around the end of the year.
That does not mean abandonment, that does not mean they haven't decided what to do at all, it just means that they are planning to announce something but don't want to tell us yet.

Right, because game development lead times aren't inherently massive, and a small studio making a staggeringly complex game for the company's size can totally spare the resources to run bloated marketing and social media departments that farm engagment 24/7.
