Salvaging?!

Post by Falcrack » Thu, 25. Nov 21, 18:49

Are we seeing salvaging in the trailer for Tides of Avarice? I see what looks like a ship using a tractor beam, hauling a big cubical chunk of debris, and depositing it at a station.

So that leaves open the question for me, there are a number of ship wreck fields where numerous wrecks are located. Will these be infinitely respawning wreckage fields, or will we be able to mine them out of existence?

"Extraordinary new ships, new economy and gameplay elements will surprise X4 players"

This possibly indicate something might be done to wrecks to work like mining resources.

You have the pernament "resources fields / wreck fields" and you have singular "ore rocks / wrecks" that appear after some event (mining / ship destruction) and will despawn after some time.

I wonder if it is salvaging like in hardware shipbreakers game or is it a basic salvaging.

Destroyed ships and stations create wrecks, which in turn can be recycled. You can do it by towing smaller wrecks to special station modules or by using a salvage ship that does it on-site.

Salvage creates basic resources and will be an alternative (or an addition) to mining.

Seems like there's no tech salvage / reverse-engineering involved.

The only reason ud get me to salvage is if i can find tech like reusable weapons or ship parts or skins to salvage or ships to reuse with a bit of work (fixer uppers) and maybe blueprint hunting (find it on a salvaged data crystal or something), if its just wares you get from salvaging then thats boring as heck, no thanks.

I doubt - at most bigger ships might break into several sub-wrecks for easier towing with new tug ships.

My preference would be for wreckage fields to not respawn automatically, and for them to gradually diminish in size as they get mined. Eventually, these fields of wrecks would be mined away, and what would be left are just wrecks that are naturally produced in the game as a result of battles.
