I've seen one gray like that in my game as well, so I'm curious what it is too.

After a station is destroyed, its icon is grayed out for a while before it vanishes.

Yes i know this but this is not what is happening there is no station there the AI are trying to build stations it seems then quitting on them and spamming a new one over and over the whole galaxy is the same.

This means that station are being deconstructed.
