Teleportation To Ships In Distress

Post by ZaphodBeeblebrox » Wed, 20. Jun 18, 10:05

In Rebirth a ship that was being attacked would message the player.

Will there be a means to bring that ship into high attention?

If I have researched teleportation, will there be an easy way to find out if I can teleport directly to that ship.

If I can't teleport directly, how easy will it be to find a route to the ship?

Yes please!

I can't remember which stream it was, but they announced that on the message ticker, you can click each message to take some action based on what message it is. I hope clicking on an attack message will bring up the map centred on that ship, at which point you can easily teleport to something useful nearby.

Plus
What happens to the ship i have lovingly lavished with upgrades etc when I depart,,, does it gain an aura of invincibility .... ?
When I materialise inside potentially doomed ship.. do I play the Last Post and wave farewell to the cruel universe or do I look out of the window .. point my finger at sniggering enemy and utter "pew pew"....or do I just give him or her the finger and reload last save.
As you can tell I do have great apprehension about "teleportation" as opposed to jumping in, kicking a*se with all guns blazing ....

How many times did "jumping in...all guns blazing" actually help a freighter under attack half a sector away? In my experience it was comparatively rare for attacks to occur right next to a convenient jumpgate - mostly by the time I got to the fight it was already over. Generally the most I could do was avenge my destroyed ship but couldn't do much to help it survive.

IMO teleportation has significant potential in this regard. In X4 planning to invest much more in escorts for freighters & provide them with good ships with decent firepower. Indeed those escort ships will be exactly the sort of ships I'd want to fly myself. That way if a freigter is attacked I'll have a ship set up just the way I like it, already on site, with which to save the freighter. Certainly not planning to teleport to any doomed ships & make silly noises when there are better strategies available.

For the sake of clarification..... :)
How few freighters do you intend to have to be able " Ship set up, already on site with which to save freighter"
Or is the intention to have one ship per zone/sector in standby.
I thought lately that you would get a ships distress message (it would take avoidance tactics) so enabling time required to burst onto the scene with all guns blazing ... so to speak.
Better strategies is a matter of choice to different players.
I was not trying to be critical so much as to see how Ego intend for certain scenarios to play out
To jump in with all guns blazing is enjoyable, maybe a strategy you should try once in a while... :)

If a station (Rebirth) had small fighters assigned to it the were sent out as escorts for the station's traders. Don't know if this will be the case for X4, but I am assuming that something similar will be available. This means that you can (possibly) build small ships to a template and assign them to stations for escort duty.

The escorts would then be your "favourite" load out for trader defence.

Fair question. Using X3 terminology, planning for 1 M3+ or M6 per freighter as escort. Will expand the trading fleet as funds permit but won't be sending anything out without adequate escort. Probably the same for stations, though assuming stations will have their own guns (as per XR) this will be a secondary consideration. Nice to have though (if only to oversee the defence & hoover up loot after the fight) but may not need to be quite as good as the freighter escorts.

As for ships assigned to sector patrol duties, still undecided. Used them extensively in XR - typically XL warships defending key zones (1 per zone), such as mining zones, jump beacons, refuelling stations & frequently visited NPC suppliers (e.g. major energy cell production zones). May not be as necessary if I'm providing close escort for freighters & intending to intervene personally if they are attacked.

By the way jumping in all guns blazing is essentially what I'll be hoping to do, just with teleportation providing the jumping in rather than a jumpdrive. It is quite possible that at the moment I teleport to the escort ships they'll already be involved in the fight (i.e. guns blazing before I even arrive) - I'll just take over the controls & keep shooting. Just won't have the long journey to get to the fight before I can do anything.
