Going beyond a simple build station request
I've recently been wondering something that I figured I'd make a post about now that I can see again. In my game during the Boron plot they wanted me to make a station in 18billion, I took it a step further of making it a shipyard for them but I never noticed it actually build a ship once it was constructed and handed over. So it made me wonder if the game actually sees it as a shipyard in this case or if it was basically wasted materials?
I know that each faction can have a limited amount of stations based on the amount of sectors under their control, so some small factions can only have 1 or 2 shipyards as an example and doing this is an easy way around - but only if it's actually used as one. I also wondered if I could abuse this when it comes to the ANT Terraforming missions as I do not want them settling in my areas. I'll already have to live with losing one zone to BUC (sadly) when I decide it's time to finish that plot. So if by some miracle a station build mission ever pops up for ANT, and I turn it in to a shipyard somewhere for them then when I terraform they'll not be able to come in to my zone, my alternative was to keep destroying the plot they try and place in the zone after and hope they give up trying.
I'm sure you guys have done things like this previously, what did you observe?

"I'll already have to live with losing one zone to BUC (sadly) when I decide it's time to finish that plot." Not if you've already claimed it with a separate (say) defence station of yours before finishing and transferring the BUC HQ. They will rename the sector on completion but it would still be yours to do with as you wish afterwards.

Re: Going beyond a simple build station request
I don't like having other factions inside of my controlled sectors, especially ones where I've set up properly within. Though it has led me to ponder what would happen if I destroyed the BUC stuff that come within the sector, would they try to rebuild elsewhere or forever inside that sector?
Re: Going beyond a simple build station request
I've recently been helping out CAB (I sided with ZYA in the plot) and they do not own a shipyard or wharf, and they seem to only be building normal factories. I just this moment actually got a build station mission from them for another metal refinery station and this made me wonder the original post again.
If I put a wharf on it, will they actually use it when it's handed over to them? Surely one of you would have done this before and can mention what you observed? The Boron one I did doesn't get used but that was for a plot mission so that may be related. It takes a long time to test these things but may end up having to do that if no one knows.

Is CAB even able/allowed to use an owned Yard/Wharf? Thought they rely on FRF for all of their ship-building…
This aside, Yes you can give a faction stations, that produce non-faction-related products. Only caveat is, there needs to be a market for supplies and products for those stations. Else they go inactive and get deconstructed by the new owner. (RIP/Avarice became one of my supplier for TER-Microlattice needed for Terraforming.)

Re: Going beyond a simple build station request
I opened up factionlogic_stations.xml from ext_03.cat in the split expansion and that only shows them to only be allowed a trade station, nothing for wharfs or shipyards.
So I think you may be correct with them not being able to make their own and I assume if I built them one that they'd not use it either. Can anyone else confirm as well for me please?

Did they build it themselves? Do they use it and I'm guessing you sided with ZYA in the plot as well?RainerPrem wrote: ↑Tue, 19. Sep 23, 10:26In my game they own wharf and dock in Heart of Acrimony II.

They will utilize it provided that the shipyard possesses an adequate supply of materials and there are jobs for the new ship.Irushian wrote: ↑Sun, 10. In terms of materials, it's a simple process; all you need to do is scan the storage.
Each NPC faction has a specific quota of "shipbuilding contracts." If they've fulfilled all their contracts, they won't undertake any additional ship construction.
Re: Going beyond a simple build station request
Can CAB trade with CAB stations? Surely
Do CAB need ship "jobs"? Probably
Do CAB ships spawn (like SCA)? Probably not
Does that not leave CAB ordering their ships from any Wharf that (a) can trade with them, and (b) can produce the ship types that they need?
Or put other way, why they could not order from a CAB Wharf? That would be an odd exception.
That has nothing to do with whether CAB do or do not build Wharf stations on their own initiative.
