Thoughts on X-Rebirth

Post by Athraku » Sun, 13. Aug 17, 04:32

Had a X itch again after all this time so went out and bought x-rebirth to see how much had been improved on since launch, even though it wasn't the game I wanted to come after X3 I enjoy it for what it does do well.

Not sure if there are any plans to change things in the game or if the focus is now X4 but here's a few issues I had with the current build of the game (4.10) and things that would be cool if added

*Having fleet wide commands instead of escort being the only command for following ships.

*Being able to fit capitals / stations with weapon loadouts and not being stuck with standard ones.

*Control over ships main weapons (missiles and main guns as they are bugy and don't seem to like following the orders given)

*Keep at range commands would be really nice

*When NPC's talk it stops all control inputs from the player until they are finished... while hostiles are having their way with you.

*Needs less micro over traders. Personally i liked the uni traders of X3 far more

*Capping ships.... idk it seems you can ignore all empire building aspect I love in X games and just buy 50 marines and a commander right at the start of the game (or after doing a incoming raid mission) cap the best ships in the game *using missiles to destroy turrets* and have endless money from the word go.... its more broken than the stock market in AP. Capping xenon ships was always fun end game type things to do in X3 thank goodness for mods but imo should be in vanilla.

*Choice as far as station building goes... I mean you can pick what upgrades you want to put on but the choice there isn't real its either you have it or don't your not picking between things feels really dumbed down compared to complexes.

*Stardust is evil not immersive at all... thank god the mod that removes it still works :)

*Trading... mods again mostly fix that. Having permanent trade updates is a god sent and I'm not sure even have messed around with trading without that not sure why that's not standard

*Owning a shipyard along with destroying NPC station not sure why either of these is not a thing in the vanilla version of the game.

*The talking... o god the talking between shut up betty and stations transferring fund ships under attack trade runs finishing the game takes every chance to stop you inputting commands to your ship with cringe worthy dialog.

*Inside Stations - its really bad I'm sure even without reading the forums that its been said a lot so doesn't need mentioning more than this.

Despite these few things i enjoyed X-Rebirth for what it had to offer, the outside of stations is breath taking with a real sense of scale and purpose to each part as well as most areas of space they are placed in. I'm still not sold on highways but the current ones are an improvement on what it was.

My hope is that X4 lets us get back into any ship owned as in like last few X games. Haven't had a chance to catch up on all the latest news just yet but do see some of the old faces are still here :o so... hi

Hi!

I second most of your thoughts.

I really think that most of the "NPC's talks" in X Rebirth are game breaking: most of them stops all inputs of the player while the hostiles pummel you, some of them can be skipped (can't consider it a fix) but most don't, most of the dialogues "in stations" can't be shortened...

I am not sure about the capping, right now it seems that doing missions give you more money/hour than anything and capping seems very time consuming to use it as main income... I didn't try empire building, I am only capping ships for my own use and doing missions for money so not sure...

Indeed the squad/fleet commands and control, station/empire building and overall ship equipping and customization seems pretty limited or dumbed down in relation with previous installments.

At least the Skunk now have more weapon variety (needs more) and you can equip mods on your weapons, what improves it.

From what we know (and things are subject to change) not all ships will be flyable in X4 and by that I took that to mean ES simply cannot build unique cockpits and interiors for all ships. Could you give potentially all ships a fall back option of the X3 hud system? I think it would be immersion breaking to some and highly desirable for others.

Yeah a lot of the dumbing down is likely due to trying to be a console game more than one for the PC. Its a real shame cause friends see me playing and comment on how great it looks but I can't honestly recommend it to them due to it's many flaws that only a true fan of the series can overlook.

Ah that makes me a little sad :\ ES didn't make unique station interiors for rebirth not sure why they would get hung up on ships, but sounds like we will be able to fly more than the skunk at least so.... progress :P

Even if some ships aren't fun for most people to fly its the option to do it that I miss more than anything taking away choices that we had in the past few games has been the biggest backwards steps for rebirth imho...

Couldn't agree more!

It seems that stations interiors were ES priority but stil they didn't make unique interiors so why would they need to do for ships cockpits in X4?

Stick a camera on top of the ships like in X3, create generic cockpits for each class like they did for the stations interiors in X Rebirth. Or at least make it possible so we can create mods that allows us to fly them!

It should be an option: if you don't want to, then don't!

If you think that flying capital ships is boring, so be it, but don't try to prevent others from doing so. I myself don't like flying capitals but knowing that it is possible is always a plus.
