There is still audience and great attention for Egosoft after all

Great news!

Is there perhaps an official thread where we can put our ideas for x4/thoughts on rebirth, what we liked and what we didnt?

Will be possible to change actual weapons loadout on our ships, as it was in X3?
There are ships with more than one weapon slot. You can equip compatible weapons and assign them in weapon groups.
Example with a ship with two weaponslots.
E.g. slot1 laser installed, slot2 has a shotgun equipped.
Weapongroup 1: fire slot 1
Weapongroup 2: fire slot 2
Weapongroup 3: fire slot 1 and slot 2.

Either two shotguns or two lasers can be installed of course, too.

Thank you Egosoft for wonderful news! Merry Christmas!

PS: I know it's too early but please just consider open beta or some teaser version before releasing X4 to avoid unnecessary disasters in reviews :-)

@ Axeface: Recent threads on X4 speculation and Rebirth dislikes (many - take your pick) already exist and can be added to and so will get to the top of the front page.

Of course discussion of content of the betas should be in the relevant Public Beta forum.

Well, X4 news is certainly worth cracking out the old account and posting a generic, woop.

Of course, remains to see what else is released further down the road but the summary of what will be in X4 is a good start.

I long for the same feeling of depth and the sheer selection of choice I had in X2 as I lost months of my life to it at Uni, alas I never got further than 30 minutes of Rebirth and X3 was eventually pretty good but never re-captured that buzz I got from X2.

Well there are a lot of us fans who are still keenly interested in Egosoft even if the last game they released wasn't worth even the broadband cost it would take to download it. xD

I can't wait to see what they do with X4 so I can (hopefully) give them my money! What they have announced so far seems to have them on the right track though! :D

I probably would complain about X:R VR being a complete waste of time and money, but at least it will let them hammer out any bugs in the new engine there before releasing X4...

I never bothered with X3R because it was basically a stripped down over simplified version of X3 that wasn't worth the time but this VR version excites me so much. Please don't screw this up!!
You seem to be a little confused. It's X Rebirth VR Edition; nothing to do with X3 Reunion. :)

Stop talking about X:Rebirth VR, that's unimportant. More important are the little bits about an truly X4 in the making.

Now that's something interesting. Really looking forward to that one. =)

Okok, I'm back to the offtopic english forums ...

i am pretty sure ego already said no to that.
You have insider info on X4? Because the only thing Ego's said 'no' to was flying capitals in Rebirth. I don't see where they've said the same thing about X4.
Linolafett mentioned it in the German forum. Short version: There are S, M, L, and XL size ships. You can steer S and M ships yourself.

I like the bit about Vulkan. That should make it a lot easier to port the game to Linux and Mac.

A while ago I decided to skip the first generation of VR. Now I think I'll have to reconsider. Are you trying to bankrupt me? Those things cost a fortune! :D

One last question: Will the beta patches and early access be limited to Steam? And will there be a Steam exclusive period for XR-VR? Would be great to get that stuff via GOG.

Thanks for the exciting news, Egosoft!

Well, its still pre-alpha, so there is always a chance they will change their minds and get it right instead! I doubt they want another XR on their hands.

Can't believe they're finally working on/updating Albion Prelude! To me, that's way more exciting than Rebirth.

Still wish they'd make a real X4, a modern and updated X3:AP. Rebirth doesn't count.

well, its still missing even with XR because that wasnt building form individual modules. lets hope this time they make it right :)

Hmm more x game development. :(

Wished you would make a new IP set in space instead of redoing the same game over and over again.

I know bernd is x mad and doesnt wana do anything else but it would be interesting to see what egosoft as a company could do with a new IP and not be known just for 1 IP/game.

More modular stations. Means less unique looking stations as all stations will look even more the same just a mix of this and that and the other. Stations should be cool things with decent skins on not a mix of parts which u see on almost all stations which the last few x games have been like. Especially rebirth. Back in the days of xbtf and x2 etc stations used to look uniquely shaped and could identify them alot easier. Nowadays in rebirth there all jumbled up into a big mess of a hub where u dunno by sight what things are. True back in the older x games they were less detailed in poly and textures but at least they looked different from each other baring faction differences which often there wasnt except a color change iirc but least i knew what a spp looked like back in them days vs a cp.

Hope X4 isn't going to be a desaster like X Rebirth. An enhancedd and more extensive X3 would be the best thing ever (y)

Unless you will be able to pick modules from specific races in x4. If they have the rebirth huge station system with modules but with a larger selection of race choices, it would be great. I think the rebirth system is great. I dont really see how rebirths system is any less varied than previous games (unless you are running XTC :p ).

Personally, I have to disagree - sticking to one universe allows it to grow in depth (and breadth), the lore expanding with each new release. For those of us to whom story matters, that's very important. Starting anew will never allow the same quantity and quality of backstory to be created, even if a large cadre of staff is assigned to the task exclusively - lore has to grow semi-organically over an extended period of time, and inaccuracies, hearsay and contradictions actually end up contributing as much as canon.

Furthermore, the X-verse has had a shipload of creativity invested into it - to simply throw it all away would be a waste of criminal magnitude. In my opinion...

EDIT: WRT station diversity - I have to say, I have no difficulties whatsoever telling stations apart (in Rebirth) - I find their constituent modules quite distinctive (especially energy stations), and some stations' "big-picture" structure is also unique (a ship-tech fab, for example, can't POSSIBLY be mistaken for anything else...) in addition to containing unique-looking modules (the glowy fusion core fabs, the funky upright Podklentov fabs, the three-pronged electrically charged plasmatechs). Likewise, farms are also highly varied in appearance - I don't see anyone ever confusing a spice tube with a wheat farm or a plankton tank or a ganja farm. There are certainly a few modules that could do with a bit more visual identity (though that too is often aided by ad signs on the outside), but on the whole I think that a reasonably decent job has been done of distinguishing them from each other while maintaining consistency within a race and tech level.

EDIT: I'd also like to add: focusing on and specialising in one "world" allows a much better job to be done. I think it's much better to be known as crafter of one masterpiece (one that keeps growing, mind you, so it's not as though it's stagnant), than half-assed scribbler on multiple walls.

totally agree with this, especially that i think of XR like that new IP and, well, it didnt go well :) the x universe is quite unique and i think this is the main reason why so many x fans run off seeing xr, we wanted to continue living in THAT x universe we left at X3.

about the station building i would like a version between X3 and XR. or to be more detailed id like to build any station module separately like in x3 if i want but when i want to go for hubs, aka connect more modules, they should properly connect into an xr style station. i dont think it would be so complicated. no fixed modules upon fixed modules but freely chosen module connect to corridor connect to other module. let us be creative pls

Thanks for supporting your games.

Once again putting my life on hold for XR. Right away I see performance improvements and small annoyances like waiting for Yisha to ask permission before docking has been fixed. Really appreciate the work.

I hope people are interested in helping out with the bug smashing in the beta forum. The game is a lot better now.
