Never played AP; all X3 advice is based on vanilla+bonus pack TC or before: AP has not changed much WRT general advice.

Hmm, nice to hear that. Prices for teladi capitals are off the charts. Let's see how it all turns out then.

Weapon ranges are listed in the Capital Ship Components section. :) In general, destroyer-type weaponry have more or less comparable weapon range (between 6KM to 8KM). The only exception to this is the Split's Ragefire Turret.

Mining turrets are included in the weapons summary of capital ships that have them. There aren't many ships that have them.

Just a suggestion, but maybe it'd be a good idea to add ship prices (w/, w/o upgrades) and overall cost-effectiveness. You already have the DPM values calculated, from that info it wouldn't be too hard to add a DMP / Cr value or something similar to see how much mayhem you're actually getting for your money.
Hmm, I can certainly do that... but keep in mind a couple of things:
  • DPS doesn't always mean everything (the Arawn is a great example - it has decent DPS on paper, but is really a terrible ship in its current implementation). Weapon types often say a lot more about a capital's combat effectiveness than raw DPS alone.
  • Some ships aren't available for purchase (Gangrene Chaser, Titurel, Xenon ships), that doesn't mean they can't be acquired by other means. :P How does one rate their "value" against other ships, though?

I have seen 2 new miners in 3.50 B1, based on sucellus but opened on the top.

Completely disagree about arawn doing poor damage. Frankly arawn can outdamage olmekron fairly easy. As you said "dps" is a garbage stat that means absolutely ****** nothing unless it's static pure math oos calculations back in good old AP days(no idea how ooz mechanics work in Rebirth). We aren't plaing math formula simulator... hell event that would still have some randomness to it, even shooting walls with infinite ammo could produce some unexpected results.

Once my arawn escort caught up with me peeling engines off a fulmekron, while the bugger was boosting over us. his v crusher volley completely leveled almost all surface elements on top of fulmekron. Some parts on the nose were blown even below, heh. Fulmekron may have absurd damage output and very good turret placement but it lacks any aoe capabilities which basically leaves all the surface elements intact.

Say what you will about v crushers but capitals with infinite ammo and a boat load of missile launcher are pretty damn deadly to anything slow or large.

Also damage for sucellus seems way off. While it has only 1 big cannon, fire rate is pretty high and sometimes it burst fires for up to 3 shots. Tho putting that thing into consideration may not really be worth it, in vanilla ai doesn't even try to aim it. When it does... its like having a tripple targon tracer that can move.

And Onil is now officially best fire and forget mining solution. That speed... THAT SPEED!

p.s. shameless bump ftw?

Is it possible for OP to update this really great guide for the X-Rebirth 3.5?
Guide has missing RoC mining ship Onil (bulk/liquid) which was added via 3.5 patch. Thanks for the great work so far!

At this point, it's probably better to simply wait for the next DLC, since it will probably include an entire new race.

I've been taking a break from XR, I'll add the info for the Onil once I get a chance to look at them in game. :) Sorry for the lack of updates.

Damn should have read this thread. I didn't know about the Onil, haven't seen one yet though. Wasted my credits on 3rd rate mining ships >.> the stats on Onil is damn impressive.

I don't know... Liquid-mining Onils are awesome, but the bulk ones have such a small hold that I don't think they'll ever be competitive. I stick to the Fedhelm to supply stations.

Updated for XR 4.0. Filled in some missing ships (the two versions of the Onil and the hybrid versions of the Rahanas) and some missing stats.

Please note that I just started a new game for 4.0 so if there are new ships added for 4.0/HOL, then I haven't gotten to them yet. For now consider this a work-in-progress. :)

Tks for the update Simoom!

BTW it may be worth noting that the Rahanas multi-role variants have compartmentalised storage; I need to check if this applies to Styrvok as well. All OL capship freighters still have true 'universal' storage along with the Tit & Phoenix Marauder

The only HoL/v4 ship additions are some small/medium types BTW, unless you count the UFO & Zepp

It can beat most destroyer in a 1v1 scenario due to the sheer size of its shields, but its firepower leaves a lot to be desired especially considering its high cost.

  • Weapons:
    • HIT/MA Turret (Argon) x34
    • Plasma/MA Turret (Argon) x14
    • Hailstorm Turret x16
    • V Launcher x5
    • Astrobee Launcher x1
I didn't do a detailed check of the ships but from a quick scan down the stats, the the Arawn jumped out. It has 56 HIT/MA and 22 Plasma/MA, for a total DPS of ~236k at close range.

It's hard to be sure due to display issues and the possibility of changes to the game since the above was written but from discussing weapon damage with w.evans in the past, I think the DPS value above may be too high. I would be nice if the IHC was more powerful that is tabulated on the wiki though.

My understanding is that the only multi-storage trade ships that have segregated cargo volumes are the Rahanas C+E, Rahanas B+L, and the Scaldis.

Styrvok C+E variant has a segregated hold with a capacity of 63k Energy & 52k Container. It was my first ship in my current game, started in 4.0 (Aspiring Merchants get one free). Think the same is true of the B+L variant, though don't have one in my current game & the DV shipyard is out of scanning arrays, so can't quickly buy one to check it's stats.

Thanks for catching that. :) Looks like the Arawn may have been buffed during one of the game versions I missed out on; I just double-checked it in-game and looks like the stats indeed changed. I have corrected its description in the guide.

Its DPS is now close to the Olmekrom, but nearly a third of it still comes from the Hailstorm turrets. Probably doesn't matter for OOZ combat, but IZ performance will still be lacking compared to Plasma Jet L/R-equipped destroyers.

Yeah I was gonna have someone look into the game codes for me (I am not sure how to do that). There was a discrepency between the value listed by the in-game encyclopedia and the actual stat displayed when examining the ship (which shows around 50K DPS).

Arawn are completely garbage, I tried Arawn vs Olmekron 1vs1. He only managed to drop Olmekron shield to 0% and only 10% of its hull before he got wreck. I already destroy the engines, all of his drones and some of the turrets before bring him in. Waste of money, really. That gigantic shield doesn't help at all to balance with it's poor damage. Finally I just destroy Olmekron weapons one by one and bring my taranis to helps bring down the hull and board it. At least I got a replacement to that garbage tin can. By the way, this is on 4.0. Maybe it was better in earlier version, I don't know.

Great Guide! But a few things to mention:
  • Teladi Phoenix comes in two variants: the Pirate version you listed and another "official" version, with a bit more hull (900k I think) and 3 Plasma/MA and 3 Plasma/JET LR weapons instead of 6 Plasma/JET LR. it also has no universal cargo but only fuel :/
  • Rahanas and Styrvok with two Cargo types have split cargo similar to Scaldis instead of having a real hybrid cargo space. Hermod and Lepton have a hybrid cargo though, making the Hermod a better option than Rahanas and Styrvok imho in terms of cargospace
  • Xenon I only has the universal cargo thanks to XenonHunt, otherwise only 10k fuel, like most fight-ships.

I agree, the Arawn is a very poor investment, especially if you intend to use it for capital VS capital combat. It may have giant shields, but its effective HP is the same as the Fulmekron, except the latter does over 2 times effective damage (since the Arawn can't use any of its Hailstorm turrets vs another capital ship, effectively shaving off nearly a third of its DPS).

The Plasma/MA turrets are also far inferior to Plasma/Jet; its projectiles are slow enough to miss enemy capitals unless you disable the engines, and it doesn't help at all against fighters (I actually see Plasma/Jet hit fighters very often due to its fast projectile speed). All in all the Arawn just isn't a true battleship relative to everything else.

Thanks so much for the tips!

Regarding the "official" version of the Phoenix.... are you sure you are not talking about the Condor?

As for the split cargo types, yeah I had no way to obtain the cargo bay data... I think they are compiling them for the XR Wiki now, though. I'll get the info from there and update my guide accordingly. :)

Corrected cargo bay info for the Xenon I. :D

definitely sure! Take a look at the ships for sale at the xl-trader at the Overwatch, only on Phoenix and one Condor, and the Phoenix has aforementioned flaws. Wasn't believing my eyes after I ordered a Phoenix at the Overwatch and realised I kind of wasted my money on a destroyer I did not want instead of a fast trade ship.

I hope they do provide the correct storage information in the encyclopedia somewhow. I always have to look at existing ships to see how the storage is actually split, quite nasty after some time
